Is there anyone out there that are into flying RC helicopters?

I got into the hobby about 3 months ago and have a Blade 120 SR and a Blade MSR, all fixed pitch helicopters.

The thing is...it is damn hard and challenging, and that is what makes it fun.

Here is a vid of the 120 SR.

These vids are not me...

and here is a vid of the little Blade MSR

Of course, crashing is part of the learning how to fly, but these helicopters are very durable and parts are relatively inexpensive...because I know! :laugh2:

And, here is a vid of what is called 3D flying, which I will never accomplish! What I do is called "sports flying"...just trying to fly the damn thing like a real helicopter.
:banghead:

At least here in Utah I have lots of open areas to crash and burn.

A buddy of mine ordered a couple of them (forget the make/model) when he was visiting a month ago from Afghanistan. He ordered 2 and they delivered 4. :D

They are really fun, and I agree... very challenging.

I took this pic after I "landed" the helicopter on my roof. :laugh2:

I recently stopped and talked to a guy that was flying some sort of 4 propeller hovercraft.

He said after spending a ton of money fixing all of the "crashes" of his helicopter, he bought this and is having a lot more fun with it.

That's really cool. What brands/models would you recommend and why?

Have you found any good discussion boards?

Are there any that have a digital camera or that could support a go-pro?

The one I have can have a digicam mounted on it.

If you have never flown a helicopter I would first go to the local hobby shop and get an indoor coaxial helicopter. They are pretty easy to fly and to learn how to fly because you don't want to get a fixed pitch or collective pitch helicopter because you will not be able to fly it.

Below is a Fire Wolf F106 4ch Co-axial Rc Helicopter.

This one is a 4 channel, but you will probably find 3.5 channel helicopters that are just as good and is what I started out with. They are sort of easy to fly, but, you will crash which is part of the hobby, however, they are durable and actually come with spare parts. You can get one from a hobby shop or on the internet for about $30.00. Just make sure to get a coaxial helicopter first!

Here is a perfect one to start out with...

After you get bored with it after several weeks, then you can advance to the Blade MSR like the one above that is more challenging. And, if your budget allows, you can buy one with a built in camera that you can download the vid to your computer and watch what you did when you were flying it.

Good luck if you do get a helicopter, it's a great hobby and really fun.

Some of those come with GPS and when you are outside hovering it, you can lock it in one place and it will stay there and not move. You can go inside and pee, or go smoke a cigarette and it will still be right where you left it.

Even if you tug on it with your hand while it is locked in place, it will tug back on you to try and stay in the GPS position that you locked it in.

;)

Here is a vid of me last night trying to record my son flying the MSR in the garage because it was windy here in Utah last night. And, I tell you, it might look easy, but it is not! I wish I could find some little Dallas Cowboy sticker Stars to slap on the side of this MSR.

Your kid is better at flying those things than I am.

Though that's not saying much cuz I'm not very good. :D

And your garage looks a lot like mine... only yours is organized...

The wife did that.

What most of that crap is I have no clue.

:laugh2:

I want to learn how to fly a real helicopter! But, I'm dislected and my equalibriam is off, so they turned me down for a helicopter license. Go figure...

I have one of the cheap sima s107 and modded the controller, I took the spring off to keep the "gas" to the propeller more steady. Really helps controlling it.

I'd like to have a quad copter with a fpv system on it.

That looks awesome. I wonder what kind of travel restrictions there are on things like that. Would be really cool to take on vacations/trips to get aerial views of some cool locations.

I will get a job flying Jerry's helicopter! He pays good money...
