The more Garret shines, the more I feel like we will lose him after only one year. Garrett is perfect for this team and personnel and it would suck only to have him for one year. I would hate to see him go to another team and end up being a great HC while we are searching for a replacement for Wade Phillips in a few years.

I'm thinking we should pull out a snyder type play and give him top 5-10 HC money and assure him the HC job of the cowboys when it becomes available. what are your thoughts. Do you think Garrett would forego being a HC now to be the Cowboys HC down the road?

If anyone in this league can figure out a way to keep Garrett with his current team, it is Jerry Jones.

If he ends up leaving, it won't be from a lack of strategy, effort, or money.

I think this will definitely happen... giving him a big raise to stick around.

One good side-effect of the Giants resurgence is that Coughlin probably won't be fired this year... and many people have speculated that is the one HC job that Garrett might leave the Cowboys for.

So I guess the Giants success is good for something after all. :D

i think jerry has told phillips and garret that phillips will be here 2 years (and hopefully he wins a SB in that time). then garrett becomes the HC. i have to believe that garrett would rather be HC of America's team than any other team in the NFL. Garrett aint going anywhere.

BOOK IT !!! :D

Tony Sparano keeps getting forgotten about, and I'm not sure by what I wouldn't hire him over Garrett if I were looking for a new head coach.

As long as Dallas keeps one or the other, I'm pretty pleased. Sure I'd like to keep both, but if the offense keeps looking so good that those guys get jobs, something good must have happened.

Things I know for sure:

Wade Phillips has done a great job as Head Coach/Defense.

Jason Garrett has done a great job as OC/calling plays.

Whether or not he'll be a great HC is still a crap shoot as it is with all successful OC's, so I'm not too worried right now about his future as Head Coach of the Cowboys.

I'm happy with how things are now....I don't think he'll draw lots of interest as a HC this offseason based on one year with a very talented Dallas offense, but if that happens, so be it.

Yup, I completely agree. JJ will do everything in his power to keep J. Garrett, but ultimately, it's up to Garrett.

I would like to point out that Wade Phillips has been the guy that has made the difference in Dallas this season (just ask Jen Jen). If I had to choose between keeping Jason and keeping Wade....I'd keep Wade.

Yea, I can just seem him handing out resumes in the NFC east, he did real well on the calling test last night, nothing would pain me as much if he got Reid's job..

Garrett is in his second year of being any type of coach. Last year he was QB coach in Miami, working with the likes of Culpepper, Harrington and Lemon; Lemon being the only one to throw more TDs than INTs (2 TD, 1 INT).

This year, he is an offensive coordinator, inheriting an offense that was very capable of moving the ball and scoring last year. Sparano, who made it work, was retained.

So, you have an offensive coordinator who has coached 1 1/2 years total in his life, inherited a squad that was near the top of the NFL the year before he was brought in and also retained the man that previously made it that potent.

Sounds like head-coaching candidate to me.

I totally agree that Sparano is underrated. and I would like to keep him as well he would be a good OC for Garrett when the time is right.

I am not saying we should dump Wade. I am thinking more along preparing for his eventual departure and not losing out on what could possibly one of the hottest young coaches out there.

Say what you want about Garrett's lack of experience as a coach, but Garrett has that certain "IT" factor (very similiar to Romo's Moxie). give him 2-3 years on the bench behind Wade and then watch him take off and take the NFL by storm a la Romo. I have read nothing but the highest of praises for Garrett from very respected football people. I do not question his ability to be a successful HC in this league eventually (and most likely sooner than later).

It is also about keeping the nucleus of this team together for several years to capitalize on the continuty and chemistry of a very talented team. That is how dynasties are created.

This praise is of his work as offensive coordinator or which he has 8 game notches in his belt. He does not have ANY Head Coaching experience at any level. He has the help of Sparano, who is probably holding his hand through the whole process. I'm sure there are a bunch of teams looking to hand over the reins to a first year offensive coordinator who may turn out to be the resurrection of the one man they spent the most time studying under, Norv Turner.

Possibly. It is also a possibility that Snyder just might decide to try to weaken us and bring Garrett in as his HC.

It's kind of doubtful, by I wouldn't put it past Napoleon.

Frankly, I think Jerry is going to do something dollar wise to ensure he stays and takes over from Phillips. If Garrett knows that he can have Romo and company in just a couple more years, he likely would pass on a Miami or a St. Louis nest year only to have Dallas in another year or two. Just my $0.02

there's more to being a HC than calling plays. especially when you got TO and tony romo.

plus, what kind of scout is he? did he push for wes welker?

not really worried about losing garrett.

The only way I see Garrett leaving after the season is if the Boys win the Superbowl. I think he will want to finish what he has started before he takes off.

If the Boys don't win the big one then he'll be back to win it next year before moving on to a head coaching gig. I don't see many jobs out there that would be attractive to him.

The Jets? Mangini gets another shot because it's not his fault that Pennington absolutely sucks right now.

Dolphins? Cameron's first year in Miami so he will get a few more seasons.

Falcons? Petrino's first season: see above.

Rams? Decimated by injuries; Linehan gets another chance.

49ers? Injuries at the critical positions. Nolan gets another chance.

Bengals? See Rams.

Ravens? This is the only serious possibility I see at this point but Garrett would be in for a major rebuilding job. No QB, aging defense.

I think Garret would be willing to wait at least another year. Maybe by then, Jones can convince him to wait just 2 more seasons to get the job when Phillips retires.
