Suppose the Cowboys picked the same 3 positions but in a different order:

#19 - WR D.J. Moore, Maryland
#50 - ILB Malik Jefferson, Texas
#81 - OG Mason Cole, Michigan

These are the players that would have been available at those positions, and who the Cowboys showed interest in prior to the draft.

Now examine that draft and compare it to the players the Cowboys actually drafted. The reality is that the draft was/is deep at WR, and not nearly as deep at LB and OG. So despite those who really wanted D.J. Moore or Calvin Ridley in the 1st round, the Cowboys likely did better by waiting to draft a WR, and picking at LB and OG before they picked a WR.

OF course, time will tell if LVE really is better than Jefferson, or Williams really is better than Cole. For that matter, we'll find out if D.J. Moore really is better than Michael Gallup.

Exactly right, time will tell.

Yeah I dont really like Malik Jefferson off the ball that much. He also wasn't asked to cover much, and caused a pretty shocking lack of turnovers in college given amount of snaps. 1 FF each in freshman and sophomore years, 0 last year and 0 INTs his entire college career.

Mason Cole is okay but William's is better and only 20

I have a better feeling with the way the Cowboys picks worked out over yours.....no offense!!

Um, those weren’t his picks. He’s making a point if we did go with WR first that’s what we could’ve ended up with. Not nearly as good as what actually happened.

Thanks for putting that into perspective, OP. Shows the FO made the right decisions.

There's a billion "what if's" you can look at in retrospect.

The fact is we have who we have. It's been a solid 3 rounds where we got really good players that all fill positions of need. I'm gonna focus on them and to heck with the what ifs.

That is his point. He is talking to those that were pissed that they took LVE over Ridley or Moore .

Cowboy fans who wanted a WR in 1st round is not an insight I’m interested in.

Now we can evaluate whether there was another LB or defensive player we could have drafted like OLB Evans from Alabama 3 picks later or moving up a couple picks for Edmunds.

Ok. Let me get my morning joe down and I'll re-examine this. I was up late looking at tape and digesting everything.

Loving it so far, hopefully day 3 goes just as well.

Seven picks. I expect a lot of movement today, as do most. What I'm most hopeful for is getting two solid picks in the 4th round and if we find a trade partner turning some of those later round picks into next year 1 round up picks. Those late round picks aren't going to do us any good with this crammed roster unless we find a diamond in the rough, which is quite possible but low probability.
