Re-upping Romo

Obviously, Jerry Jones is going to rip up Tony Romo's contract after this year. He he keeps playing the way he has, Romo will be in for a huge pay day this offseason.

It will be interesting to see what kind of payday he will receive. If Romo plays like this for the rest of the year, I see him getting close to Drew Brees money. Brees had 2 productive years in SD while Romo will have had only 10 games or so, but there is no way Jerry will even consider Romo getting away and will do whatever it takes to keep him.

There is no way he will get Peyton Manning or Tom Brady money. I see a 5-year, $50M contract with $10M-$12M signing bonus staged over 2 years. Again, that is assuming he keeps at his current level of play. If it drops off, so does the dollars.

But Jerry is going to have to shell out big dollars this February or March. But he will happily pay it to find Tory Aikman's replacement.

My friend and I were discussing this last night. He was thinking $15 a year long term, I said no chance.

I can see him with a nice $5/year average and loving it.

I think they need to keep Romo on the gound. The over confidence he is showing, the security, there is a thing line between being secure and arrogant. I dont want Romo to become the next Ricky Watters, Duce Staley, etc.

I NOT saying he will, but this quick of a success, often poisins even the most noble minds. Adding to that..... Romo gets dumped by his former girlfriend, few days later, while he was weeping, he has a shot with Jessica Simpson? Then he gets all this QB hype.... see my point?

Which is why I see the signing bonus being staged. If, for whatever reason, Romo falls flat next year, Jerry can always not pay the second part of the SB.

If however, Romo continues to pan out next year, he gets the rest of his money after having 25-30 games under his belt.

Reasonable! I think that is a very logical and smart thing to do!

I feel Romo is a little too cocky for my liking as of late. Telling Jerry to get on the bus, saying Bill didn't question his goal line audible but does the fake spike.

Little too much too fast out of his mouth.

I want to let him play out this year and then talk contract in the offseason perhaps.

That is my point...... we could be worng. Maybe that is just the way he is. But I would rather have a prudent humble guy, than an arrogant guy.

I think that is part of his personality of being a cool dude. Nothing seems to affect him, high or low. And usually, with that personality, it seems like they're cocky. But I don't think he is cocky, just confidence of his abilities.

If I were Romo I would too.

Given his success so far, given that the Eagles and Giants are beat up and the Commanders imploded, given the shaky nature of the NFC right now, his odds of taking this team to the playoffs this year are as good as he can expect them to be. If he can get us there and at least make a decent showing, his bargaining leverage goes up exponentially.

No way I would sign an extension right now if I were Romo.

Romo will have the leverage. He is only signed through 2007 because he refused to sign for a longer term for more money, which Jones was offering. He had confidence in his ability and was willing to go on the market before he had had a chance to display his wares. He has even more confidence now, I would imagine. He may want to stay with the Cowboys but won't sign a long-term deal for not much money.

:eek::

I totally disagree...I think Romo has handled things exceptionaly well. He is a fun playful guy that the players like being around. He is simply in the lime light now where he was not before. According to the players this is how he is.

In order to deal with the TO type players he MUST be confident or he will get eaten alive by them. I don't think he will have a problem with the lime light...neither does BP according to his recent comments.

He has always been happy-go-lucky and a bit of a prankster. Even when he was a backup. That's part of the reason he is so much more well liked than Bledsoe has ever been. He really hasn't changed much, it's just much more visible because he is playing now. I think it loosens up the rest of the team and allows them to relax more.

Some call it cocky. To each his own. All top QB's show some cockiness. You need to have a bit of that to be successful, IMO. Much like a CEO of a major company.

That is the scenario I propose as well.

Guys with too much humility and not enough arrogance make piss poor NFL QB's.

Besides, I think you are reading way too much into some of Romo's comments. He's playful and likes to have fun with people, and that's what the comments in question were about. Why don't you listen to his responses about other players and about his own abilities? In that context he is always very humble and gives everyone credit and the respect they deserve and downplays the media's tendency to pile on the praise.

Why are people trying to hate on Romo? Seriously, this guy has done nothing but start to return our team to where we havn't been in a LONG time.

Lay off----let's let the rest of this year play out, then make decisions and judge. We don't know "who he is" because he hasn't been up in the front for us to see that. Let's enjoy learning who he is. Heck, he's winning us ballgames right now....he and the defense!

Let's keep going homo for Romo!

Woo Hoo

GO COWBOYS!

Dont get us, or at leat me, wrong, I AM VERY thrilled about romo. I just hope they keep him on the ground. I sense that we have our future QB with this guy, and would be nice to coach him outside the field for him to cope with success

I thought there was talk a little while back that the Cowboys had a 2008 option on Romo and Jerry didn't want to comment on it.
