State of the Cowboys: What the 2009 Film Revealed
By ANDY BENOIT
Offense
Dallas evolved into a run-oriented offense in 2009. That made sense, given the threesome of Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice. When healthy, Barber was his usual tenacious self. Jones, also when healthy, looked like Chris Johnson of the N.F.C. Speed and acceleration, along with stunning lateral agility, allowed him to create space. Choice was essentially a watered down version of Jones. But the ballcarriers weren’t the sole reason for Dallas’s run-first approach. Tight ends Jason Witten, Martellus Bennett and John Phillips were stellar blockers, and fullback Deon Anderson was effective behind an unathletic but powerful offensive line. In the passing game, Tony Romo had his best season, but mediocre vision and fundamentals still limited him to a sandlot style. Miles Austin’s numbers accurately portrayed his performance. Unfortunately, so did Roy
Williams’s.

This seriously is the dumbest article I've ever read from a major news source. We are a running offense? We passed more than 60% of the time. Phillips was a great blocker? Romo has mediocre vision and fundamentals? SERIOUSLY? The guy only broke franchise records for completions and yards with 4500 and threw for 70% completions in December. I thought maybe the columnist was just mentally challenged, then I saw it was a New York Times article.
