We have a great staff on CowboysZone that is having to work harder at keeping this site family-friendly than at any time in the past. This is because a lot of members simply do not care to heed our constant warnings to avoid personal attacks and insults directed at other members, the staff or the site itself.

The posts in question are not limited to the Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett, Tony Romo, etc. haters nor are they limited to the perceived "bad" users. We were giving out so many infractions that we started deleting posts without giving infractions hoping that users would realize how lucky they were to not receive infractions, but this has had little to no effect at all.

As a result, we are about to implement a new infraction system that will make the staff's job a lot easier and help to rid the site of the personal attacks and insults as well as other constant rule violations. The system worked well for us in the past and it would seem to be best way to improve the atmosphere on the site and help get everyone focused back on our favorite team.

We will implement the new infraction system on CowboysZone within the next couple of days. The new system will work as follows:

  • If a user violates the Forum Rules and has not received a suspension in the last 6 months, the user's account will be suspended for one (1) day.
  • If a user violates the Forum Rules and their account was last suspended for 1 day in the last 6 months, the user's account will be suspended for three (3) days.
  • If a user violates the Forum Rules and their account was last suspended for 3 days in the last 6 months, the user's account will be suspended for seven (7) days.
  • If a user violates the Forum Rules and their account was last suspended for 7 days in the last 6 months, the user's account will be suspended for thirty (30) days.
  • If a user violates the Forum Rules and their account was last suspended for 30 days in the last 6 months, the user's account will be banned permanently.
** Accounts can still be banned at any time for serious rule violations. **

Your 6 months starts from the date of your last infraction. So if you get a 1-day suspension and then receive no infractions for 6+ months, your next infraction would start back at a 1-day suspension again.

As you can see, it uses a user-self-inflicted scaling system. That puts your account access completely in your own hands!

I would like to point out that every action taken by a staff member here is viewed and reviewed by the rest of the staff. If you receive an infraction and it is not later reversed, you can assume the staff agreed with the action and appealing to others claiming a moderator is out to get you is pointless.

We have a great staff of moderators here who answer to each a lot more than any of you realize. They spend a lot of their time helping to moderate this site and they deserve more appreciation than they receive. These new changes will help us do our job better and, more importantly, will help make this site a great place to spend our time once again.
