Real Goose about to come on with Real Norm...

Norm is now saying, rumor is that New England wants to trade up to 9 to get Cameron Jordan and are offering 17 and 60 (late 2nd).

Geez, could that be true that they really think that much of him?

I mean, I like him better than Watt, but that's a lot to give up for him.

I still think he's a dark horse pick for us, BTW. He was a guy we supposedly really liked early before all the BS started flying.

yeah but thats cheap to me,
i would rather have pats 17th in 1st
and pats 33rd, just think that 33rd is the first opening pick in 2nd round the 2nd day, and most likely get calls for that first pick in 2nd round 33rd

bowers, yes, its all about medical, but i see him going in 20s maybe even sliding into 2nd round
Remember when he was considered a top 3 pick?

sure do, wouldnt it be something, if we either get p peterson or tryon smith in 1st and bowers is sitting there for us at 40th

What bugs me about some of these guys (especially JJT) is he sits there and starts in about how we need a RB Felix isn't this and choice can't do that so "hells yeahs dallas should be drafting a RB in the second round" Just stop! are you kidding me? these guys are killing the boys for not taking o-lineman and they want to WASTE a second round pick on a RB? We don't have a orgy of picks like the pats we have to fill NEEDS with those picks. I gurantee you we take a rb in r2 both these retards are giving us D's and F's as a draft grades in sundays paper

From JJT's interview it sounds to me like Castonzo is Garrett's guy and Tyron Smith is Houck's guy, and they're trying to come to a consensus. I could see how Garrett would really like Castonzo given that he's biochemestry major and a Rhodes Scholar nominee. Also at his private workout at Boston College his positional drills were run by the Patriots Offensive line coach, and he was really working Castonzo hard with the tempo of a real NFL Pratice and Castonzo reportedly handled it well.

I love the idea of getting a rd.2 RB. I'd imagine if Watkins isn't there at 40, we trade down and try and find one.

Lots of good players to be had in the second.

Ah man, I don't know what to think then. Wasn't Brewster Huock's guy as well?

Then I might be more inclined to go with the head coach on that one

Hey IR, I heard Norm on the way to work... How much of that do you think is stuff he's heard, and how much his own opinion? It's hard to tell with him. I do know that during the draft he'll often say, "That's a player the Cowboys really, really liked!" after they're taken.

But I kind of got the idea that he was given some names on the 4th round safety and later NT and WR. Wonder if they could happen to be the NT from Central Arkansas and the WR from Ft Valley that Parcells mentioned.

There's also a NT from Alabama A&M that I believe I heard the Cowboys had scouted.

That's pretty interesting. I wonder why that would be, with Houck being RJ's "best friend in coaching". I know you gave an explanation, but I'd hope we're not just going to draft smart, safe guys simply because he went to Princeton.

I also hope it isn't a case of a new head coach wanting to take the safest pick possible because he's scared of busts. You can't think like that. And he should know he has the ultimate job security anyway.

Frank Kearse rapid reports said the Vikings had him in for a visit a couple days ago. 6-4 and 315

and also, shouldn't we defer to the scouts anyway. Surely the scouts don't have them rated exactly the same. Take the one the scouts have rated higher, the coaches should have input but defer to the guys that have watched these guys play over and over again.

JJT just said there is a difference in opinion as to whether Costanzo or T. Smith is better. He said you could probably guess who is in Smith's corner, I imagine that would be Houck with the whole USC thing. I dunno,I guess Constanzo just strikes me as a Garrett type of guy with the intelligence and the high motor. And an offensive minded coach who is going to trust a rookie with protecting Tony Romo from edge rushers ... yeah, I think safety definitely comes into play.

As I've stated, I'm just not that big of a Costanzo fan, and I think he needlessly gets a big bump because he played at Boston College. All his polish and career starts almost work against him in my eyes, because I watch him flailing away and falling down on Youtube I'm thinking "And this guy is supposed to be a finished product?" He's reached his ceiling and this is as good as it gets?" At least I can blame Tyron's Smith's bad moment on rawness and youth. I think if you're a multi-year starter as a tackle at Boston College, you're guaranteed to go no lower than the 3rd round, no matter what (James Marten). So you can imagine where a 4 year starter at BC is automatically placed. I dunno, that weakness at the point and the falling down reminds me of Robert Gallery.

True, that's been the rallying cry the last several days, that Garrett had more respect for the scouts since his dad was one for so long.

Which brings me to my other first thought when I saw this... Why are two coaches arguing over this anyway.

And I guess I've said it before, but I'm totally with you on Castonzo, IR. If Castonzo were from Southern Miss or Washington State, would he have the exact same grade that he has now? I seriously doubt it. All I know is that Quinn absolutely abused him a few times, and a top OT shouldn't look that bad.

You raise an interesting point between possibly who Garrett likes vs. the OL coach/scouts.

Though I'm surprised if they hadn't broken the tie/reconciled their views by this stage.

I'm with you, I would prefer Smith. Actually, I'd rather take Watt over Castonzo as well.

Who cares what player Houck likes? He isn't even going to be around in another year.

If it's Houck and the scouts, it makes it interesting. (at least for me)

I agree, but I assume they flew him out to watch Tyron Smith's workout because they wanted his opinion.
