Real offseason boredom thread: How do you play the Cowboys in Madden?

On offense, I like to call a deep passing play on 1st downs as long as I'm on the Cowboys' side of the field - the idea being that it represents a chance to advance the ball into opposing territory and that, if you fail, you still have 2nd and 3rd down with which to try to get the first down.

Once I'm beyond midfield and into the opposing half of the field, though, I rarely call passing plays except on third and short. Not worth risking a turnover. I tend to play for the field goal first and consider touchdowns to be a bonus.

Usually when I'm between midfield and the opposing team's 38-yard line, I will go for it on 4th and short.

On defense, I tend to call blitzes on many if not most downs, except for 3rd and longs and 4th and longs, at which point I might use a prevent defense.

I pass every down. I use 4 WR sets. I also tend to use Witten on outs and zigs to pick up a few yards. I refuse to run against quality opposition because our offensive line is really horrid in madden. Deservedly so but still. Pass, Pass, Pass, and avoid playing the seahawks. Defense I use Ware and Lee in the Middle. I call alot of inside blitzes, because if timed correctly, a combination of Ware/Carter getting to the QB gives them a few seconds before the sack if they aren't paying attention. Also take McCray out.

Always throw to Dez Bryant on man to man coverage. On defense I mostly play man to man or press because our corners are not that good in zones.

I don't know if you were one calling for Garrett's head the last few seasons, but this might give you a slight peak into what he has to work with when play calling.

It's why our pass-run ratio has been so out of whack lately. With the line we've had, passing often gave us the best chance to win.

I run about 75% pass 50% run. Quick slants and seam routes dominate my playbook. Curls routes are legit as well in man to man. Dez usually dominates all passing stats.

Defensively I run a cover 2 man scheme. Never out of the 3-4 though.I usually run nickel packages unless the offense has only one receiver.

You must take Madden seriously to give 125%

I like to sub in Dan Bailey as my QB, because that dude is a baller .... Well after I boosted his stats to 99 overall he is.

This year, I did a lot of splitting DeMarco out wide in the slot and having Felix as an H back.A lot of slants to Miles, curls to Witten and red zone drags to Dez. On defense, I played a lot of 4-3, and always rotated my D-Line packages. This year, I'm hoping to do the same with these backs, and use a lot of two tight end sets, intermediate routes to Witten, and stretch the field up the middle with whoever is fastest of Escobar and Hanna.

90% of football is mental. The other half is physical.

Fifa > Madden

Gave up on Madden.
No way.

I actually like Fifa, but its one of the most boring sports games there is. Career mode is a lot of fun, but the games themselves leave a lot to be desired, imo.

The NHL series is still, by far, the best sports games out there.

Every single time this worked! Every year, same play.

Three Wide-Reciever set with Witten lined up in the slot as a WR. Dez and Miles run a go, and witten run a post 10 yards ahead then cut and it worked every time! Brings back funny memories of it pissing people off.

I usually play with New England's playbook for all the quick motion pass plays they have designed for Welker and use Miles in his spot. Should be fun to use their playbook this year with our abundance of talent at the Tight End Position.
