Here is what I think would be a fair judgment against the Patriots for their cheating (spygate) efforts for the past eight years.

- 50% Fine against Belicheck's earnings from 2000 - 2007.
- 25% Fine against assistant coaches from 2000 - 2007.
- Patriot org. fined 5x the total fines of coaches above.
- Superbowl wins forfeited to other team.
- Sales from merchandise from SB wins fined, split between league.

Note: All fined money paid into ex-player medical fund.

And a warning that the next cheating incident will be fined more than above.

it would be A SHOCK, if one of the above happened.

If ANY of them did I'd hope FORMER players, were the recipients. The contracts and wages now a days are crazy. It'd be nice to see ANY of them receive a portion.

I think all of them should be applied. And I agree that the former players should benefit if at all possible. I put the medical fund because I know that has been a contention with the former players. But maybe it should be split, part as a cash payment and part in the medical fund.

You could also stipulate that Belicheck be frozen out of the league for three years for the damage he has caused to the league. And if anybody hires him after three years they must pay something into this fund.

i think the super bowls should just be in the records books but put an astrik by it noting they were caught being cheaters...cuz if it goes to the other team we can't use this any more ----> :trophy:

but then again that would show even more that the giants and cowboys are the best of the NFC East as we have won ours legit and the skins had to have strike shortened seasons to win and the eagles...well they still would suck

Right. You can't take away the SB's. But a definite * should be applied. Which they will not do. However, for the next 20 years, people will know, and be reminded of it.

Why can't you take away the superbowl trophy's? I see no reason why a team can not be stripped of the title if they have won it by cheating.

They should not have the honor of claiming to be superbowl winners. They should be punished severely, stripped of titles, and be made an example of for the rest of the league.

No * asterick will ever do justice to what they did. I think the commissioner and the front offices are basically telling all teams and coaches that cheating is welcomed and rewarded in the NFL.

This is not the NCAA. This is the National Football League.

One day, a franchise may be stripped of its championship trophy, but such a thing will only come about after its team has committed an infraction much more serious than taping another team's plays or signals.

Totally preposterous. Too much has been made of the infraction. The Patriots have been the better team in almost every instance dating back to their first Bowl win.

- Suspend Belichick for a year.

- $10 million fine for Kraft. Why? He knew of it and when Belichick was fined the first time around, Kraft just simply gave Belichick a raise in pay.

- 1st rounder in 2009 and 2010 (really, he should lose 7 first rounders, one for each year he blatantly cheated).

- Assess who knew that the Pats were cheating (i.e. assistant coaches, NOT players) and fine them.

- If Weiss knew, either make him pay a fine or he will serve a 1 year suspension if he tries to get back into the league.

- Any other person involved that is not in the league has the choice of either paying a fine or a 1 year suspension from the league (players not included)

- Forfeit week 1 2007 game versus the Jets. So it's 17*-2.

The punishment should be harsh because not only does this greatly damage the integrity of the game, but a slap on the wrist doesn't scare other teams from doing the same thing. In particular, there was the K-Ball scandal in week 5 of the Bills game where the Bills allegedly gave Dallas a slick ball on the second Folk kick. This is forgotten about because Dallas won the game anyway, but I can't imagine the Bills really feared recourse from the league given the weak punishment their divisional rival got.

Retrospectively taking away victories has happened to other athletes who were later caught cheating. Isn't this what happened to Marion Jones and her gold medals from the Olympics when she was later found guilty of cheating.

I guess the question becomes what level of cheating in a team sport should nullify a championship? What if one player is caught taking steroids - should that nullify a SB championship? I think non-performance enhancing durgs would not be an issue (marijuana) but what about cocaine or amphetamines?

I disagree - that first SB win was equivalent of a hot and lucky team getting lots of breaks. They probably weren't even one of the five best teams in the league that year. The Raiders, Steelers and Rams were all probably the better teams than the Pats that year.

If you go back and look at the numbers, I think a case could be made that they were one of the worst teams to ever win the SB.

While numbers can be good indicators of proficiency on offense and defense, the type of wins produced shows what kind of team they've become. I'd take wins over numbers any day.

I cant even begin to agree with any of that. First of all thats not how things work in the NFL. Forfeit superbowl to other team???? fine that sales from SB merchandise??? It sounds like you are a little to beat up about this.

After they got caught in like week 1 did they not proceed to win the rest of their games except the superbowl. or how about this one.

Force Bellicheck and Brady into retirement for competive balance in the future. i like that one more. or how about tickets food and drinks at pats games will be free for hte next ten seasons!!

When it first came out....that they cheated.

I felt that BB should be fined $500,000, but also be suspended for 1-4 games. What he did was way worse than what Wade Wilson did...and Wade was suspended for half the season (im exaggerating here, but u get the drift).

I felt Kraft should be fined $1,000,000.

I felt the OD and DC should be fined $100,000.

Now onto the draft. I felt that the Pats got a slap on the wrist. I would have taken all of their first day picks, and not allowed them to trade back into day one at all. That would have been 2 firsts and a second that they forfeited. Initially, I thought about taking away their entire 2008 draft, but then I decided that was too unreasonable.

If BB were suspended for a year I would be very happy. If he were only suspended 8 games, I would be satisfied and would want to put this thing to rest.

I don't really care about any more fines or any more draft picks being taken away. I'm also not interested in stripping the Patriots of any SB wins. But it would be nice to put a * beside their SB victories.

I too think your suggestions would be unreasonable. That said, BB should have been suspended. Wade drew a 5 game suspension for something that was completely irrelevant to the game. Goodell's reasoning was that coaches are held to a higher standard. Well, BB was not. Was his fine even the same percentage of salary that Wade lost?

If it turns out that BB has lied to an even greater extent and committed further infractions, a long-term suspension or even a ban should be in order.

The draft pick irked me too. I'm sure that was taken ONLY because they had another, and much higher, draft pick in their pocket. It should have been both, or the higher of the two at the very least.

You can't strip SuperBowls, IMO. There is no need for the NFL to OK and asterisk either, NFL fans have already applied one.
