Realist view of the Cowboys

After losses like this past week, I have a difficult time coming on this message board. It is understandable for passionate fans to overreact to a close loss and look for the nearest bridge to jump from, but not so fast. Let us try to reel in our emotions and take this loss for what it is, a close loss.

Say what you want about who played poorly, but considering how poorly many players played, are you not encouraged by the fact that the Cowboys still had a chance to win the game? Are you not encouraged by the fact that the Cowboys got zero bounces and still had a chance to win the game?

I like many of the Cowboys fans on this message board, have some concerns about this team. For example, the lack of a pass rush early on, lack of toughness on defense, poor tackling, lack of down the field passing, and lack of toughness from our head coach, but hey, its week 3. The Cowboys are 1-1 with a very win-able game this week.

Now before we all overreact and jump off a bridge, lets just try to relax and stay the course. Lets give the Cowboys a chance to correct the problems we all know exist and enjoy this marathon, not sprint. Lets give this "new" team attitude some time to get on the practice field and work through their problems. Only then will they be built for the long haul, with a playoff run in mind.

A number of the problems you point out here are unresolved issues from prior seasons under Wade, so a realistic response would be to have major concerns about this team. It's also realistic to acknowledge that ST coverage units have been vastly improved with a new coach and kicker, and that a healthy o-line played really well and that our running trio (when healthy) is very impressive.

However, asserting that everything on balance is OK because it's only the 2nd game of the season is unrealistic, we've seen most of this before, it's just happening sooner this season.

It's hard to have a realist view of this team because they are are so inconsistent it's impossible to tell what real is.

Good post. I watched the game again last night and it was just a great, close ballgame that we lost at the end. We could just as easily have won that game as lost it -- especially if they hadn't gotten that crazy bounce off Witten's foot right into Phillips' hand, which was one of the weirdest and luckiest bounces I've ever seen.

People are saying this game was just like the end of the season last year, when it was anything but. It was a hard-fought ballgame with a very good team that we barely lost at the end. Sometimes you win those, and sometimes you don't. But it's definitely not cause for panic.

I'm appalled at the stupidity of some.

Excellent post. I think it all comes down to is if you visit message boards of any team of any sport there are people who are completely clueless but feel the need to voice their opinion.

I think we were all upset after the loss, but I think the team actually showed some guts. There was a lot of adversity in that game and most self inflicted, but even then the game is ours if a couple of the luckiest bounces possible go to NY. If we keep running the ball like we have we're going to win a lot of games this year.

Everyone thinks he's a realist.

You make good points, but why bring "realism" into it?

Because some people who post on here don't live in reality.

Maybe the reality is that they are a very inconsistent team.

Like every other week...wednesday is when people are over the loss and point to some positives. Tomarrow will be boring and come Friday people will start getting pumped up for next week.

We have three weeks to correct our issues...Then We have the harder teams. We will see what this team can do. I'm done talking about this, I'm going to sit back and see what this team has.

Before the season began, I said 10-6 with a wild card.

I haven't seen anything to make me change that prediction.

But that would be a different reality viewpoint or maybe you are jumping off a reality bridge?

Reality is we are still waiting for Romo to go more than two games in row without a pick and win a playoff game. My reality hopes it happens this year.

Same here.

And I really couldn't care less what our record turns out to be as long we make the playoffs and win at least one game there.

If we just get in somehow, I'll take my chances.
