Given the increase in "I told you so" threads and posts, I felt it was a perfect time to publish my little guide on doing it properly.

*** I Told You So for Dummies ***

"The 12 Steps to Legendary Enlightenment"

To set up the perfect "I told you so" scenario I recommend you follow these guidelines ..

1) Predict something negative because saying "I Told You So" (ITYS) when a positive prediction pans out rarely gains you any attention among fellow users and your ITYS may not even be noticed.

2) Predict something that has a huge chance of happening such as "The Cowboys will not win a Super Bowl" since that has a 97% (1 in 32) chance of coming true each year.

3) If you slip and make other less chest thumpable predictions during the season such as saying "GAME OVER" 5 minutes into a game after the Cowboys throw an interception, be sure to keep a low profile hoping everyone will forget about it.

4) Remind people after each loss how you predicted it long ago to better set up your proper ITYS in the future.

5) Make sure to keep a low profile after wins though pointing out how the Cowboys didn't so much win the game as the other team gave it to them in order to keep the ITYS in play.

6) Make sure to not let a premature exclamation of ITYS slip out before you know for sure your prediction to be true or else you risk lessening the impact of your ITYS at the end.

7) Once your prediction has come true, wait a little while before announcing it to everyone because there will be a rush at the end by other inexperienced ITYSers and you do not want all of your hard work to be wasted among the mass of inexperienced ITYSing.

8) After some time has passed and the emotional level of most users has declined to normal levels, that is the perfect time to unleash your ITYS thread of enlightenment.

9) Do not worry as any negative comments you receive are nothing more than jealous fans who only wish they had your ITYS skills.

10) Now that you have proven yourself as a master ITYSer, all other users will hang on your every word hoping to glimpse a hint of what the next season holds for the Cowboys.

11) You have now reached the pinnacle of popularity and envy on the site so it is time to take your skills and explore other sites with users who are blinded by their optimism.

12) Be sure to return to the site right before next season starts though to remind everyone of your ITYS from last season and to keep the legend of your knowledge fresh in everyone's mind!

Awesome....

Don't forget to add something about saving the link to your ITYS post. That way, you can prove your awesomeness to everyone...in case there are doubts.

Oh, the creative moments I wasted on such a guide when it would have been better spent on other tasks. /sigh

:D

:laugh2:

Probably the most humorous thread I've read on here since I've been a member.

Hostile?

Can you change my title/moniker to I Told You So? (no question mark)

Thanks in advance.

Very thoughtful post it seemed.

If you would have given this guide to me 5 years ago, i would now have over 10k ITYS posts.

I told you so about Roy Williams.
I told you so about Miles Austin being good soon, although he slipped last year.
I told you so about our offensive line being the demise of us last year in preseason.
I'm loving this, thanks Reality. I have more to come, of course if my predictions turn out to be wrong, I will completely deny it or back track. :D

i do all my "i told you so" predictions in invisible ink and only let them appear once they have proved to be true.

Cowboys win the Super Bowl this year !

If only leotisbrown had authored this. It's still a classic though. I never knew you had such a great sense of humor Reality. :D

and the best part of the negative crowd is that if they are right, they can I told you so, if they are wrong, they get to cheer with the rest of us

:laugh1:

My problem is I regularly violate #2. :tantrum:

Dallas is always favorite . . .

#13 Always end your prognostications with "but I hope I'm wrong" thereby exonerating yourself from looking like a pessimistic ****** and writing your own invitation to enjoy the success if you are indeed wrong.
