Garrett got control with his promotion, but he lost his starting quarterback in the bargain; Tony Romo was lost for the year one week before Wade Phillips' dismissal. Yet, Garrett's offense has certainly made-do:
Points per game, games 1-8: 20.1
Points per game, games 9-15: 31.2
An eleven points per game leap, which has Dallas ranked 7th in scoring offense. The Jasons have also been consistent; yesterday's 26 points was the low output in that seven-game run. Where does it rank with the league-leaders?
Points-per-game, games 9-15:
Team ppg. Quarterback(s)
1. Patriots 37 Brady
2. Eagles 36 Vick
3. Cowboys 31 Kitna & McGee
3. Saints 31 Brees
5. Falcons 29 Ryan
5. Packers 29 Rodgers
7. Colts 28 Manning
7. Chargers 28 Rivers
This is an example of the old Sesame Street jingle, "one of these things is not like the other." Look at the last column. It shows, with one glaring exception, the pantheon of NFL quarterbacks. You expect the Tom Bradys, Michael Vicks, Philip Rivers and Drew Brees to run the NFL's Ferrari offenses, and they do.
How are Jon Kitna and Stephen McGee keeping the Cowboys in this company? With an offense that's missing Dez Bryant and has seen the latest, and perhaps final fade of Roy Williams? With an offensive line that's old, penalty-prone, and which cannot convert short-yardage and goal-line plays on the ground?
