I think this type type of music has always been around, it just wasn't at everyone's fingertips like it is in the high speed Internet era. Here is some sheer brilliance from the 80s that probably would have been on a par with this song today. It seems that "trainwreck bad" simply never goes out of style.

I wouldn't be surprised if she did it for money either, because she donated everything she made off of Friday to charity.
