ol, dl, qb, cb and lb rebuilds are done
team can contend in 2018 with enough progress from new players for wr and te.

the rebuilding on the fly started with ol in 2011, dl in 2014, qb in 2016, lb in 2016, te in 2016, cb in 2017, s in 2017 and wr in 2018.
big extension decisions are pending for dl in 2019, and could cause the need for big draft investments
2019 draft investment areas: wr, s, dl (extensions?), te (player progress?),

qb rebuild status - done and developing backup
year of rebuild - 2016 - got lucky with dak
needs - dak improvement. find and develop backup. dak extension pending in 2019.

ol rebuild status - done and add pieces as needed
years of rebuild - 2011 to 2014, got lucky with la'el in 2015, added piece in williams in 2018
needs - add depth annually and la'el extension decision in 2019.

rb - done and add pieces annually
year of rebuild - 2016 with small investments as needed
needs - fill in with cheap backups annually

wr - ongoing - big rebuild
years of rebuild - started in 2018 and major draft investment(s) may be needed
needs - currently filling needs via small FA investments in austin and thompson

te - ongoing - big rebuild
years of rebuild - cheap rebuild started in 2016 and continuing
needs - develop current players and major draft investment may be needed

dl - done
year of rebuild - 2014-2017
needs - keeping gregory clean. major investment needed depending on 2019 decisions with dlaw, irving.

lb - done
year of rebuild - 2016-2018
needs - develop lve and depth players.

cb - done
year of rebuild - 2017

I have a lot of doubts about this coming season. Our depth is a big concern. We will need to stay extremely healthy to have a good season.

So Philly went from the cellar to super bowl champs in one offseason and here we are in year 7 of a rebuild on "the fly" clearly we're doing it wrong.

Drank waaay too much Cool aid before you wrote that. This team is NOT a contender. OL rebuild done? Since when? Did you forget that we just lost our pro bowl center? And Tyron Smith is a year or two away from down hill.

CB done? Based on what? Our third corner is terrible. Jones has proven nothing. Awuzie could be a keeper but by no means is that done. I agree that QB and RB are done, but our depth is horrid. I don't consider Smith a legitimate backup RB. LB is definitely done, but when Lee is gone we shall see. DL done? Irvin and Gregory are one bad day away from being toast. We have NO other DT's that we can say are quality. That is FAAAAAR from done.

Safety is about as bad as it gets in the NFL. And then you forgot probably the most important category:

Coaching: Worst in the NFL

MIght as well throw that analysis in the garbage.

our depth is much better than last year everywhere except s and te.

the thing that is making us uncomfortable is the ol.
martin is back practicing but had knee injury
tfred uncertainty
tsmith knee situation
rookie williams is athletic but needs more strength

but unlike last year, there is quality depth
flemming started many games at both ot spots
looney has to start for now while tfred is out
we have to grin and bare it for the beginning of season
hopefully by game 5, much of the uncertainty is over.

You should emphasize Starters vs overall at a position.

The backup spots are not done at many positions and the starters at some positions have not played a regular season game for the Cowboys yet (LG C-Will, 1tech Woods, etc.).

Personally I am uncomfortable about the OLs, the “passing game”, safeties, and I’m worried about run defense when Lee is hurt ( I’m not sold on Jaylon )

in terms of team building, most of the pieces r in.
yeah, the ol's are dinged and tfred (knock on wood) has the issue.
but those r short term, other than tsmith.

passing game is transitioning to new players.
theoretically route running should be better for dak than dez skills.
the transition in the dbs took most of last season, but that was not the reason we did not get into the playoffs.

safeties have not receive the investment the other positions in, as bjones was moved to his better position.
that will need investment after the season unless the players progress more than their draft status indicate.

u r going to have to continuously turnover at least half of the backups every year.
i think we have the top backups at ol, te, dl, lb, cb for at least a couple years.
rb may be an annual thing, and wr will be more stable after the experiment this year.

The backups suck. The defense looks like it's finally coming together. Not sure about the offense. Too many uncertainties.
