Cowherd: the situation in Miami?

Don Shula: Tough thing to do. They were just 1-15. He has got to start from scratch.

Cowherd: How well do you know Parcells?

Don Shula: Through the years we have met on the Golf Course and League meetings, but not real well. He has been in the league something like 19 years, so we have met

Cowherd: Is he What the Dolphins need?

Don Shula: He is not the GM and not the HC. With his expertise, he can analyze what people are doing with pretty good knowledge of what he wants them to do. Important thing is to hire the right people.

Don Shula: They have the #1 draft choice so he has to make decisions there. They have alot of work to do.

Cowherd: Parcells has drafted pretty well historically, well known that the Dolphins draft have been horrible.

Don Shula: Wayne Huizenga?

Don Shula: He stayed away from football decisions. He has tried to hire them but it has not worked out for him. He has Bill Parcells to be his football guy.

Cowherd: Mercury Morris?

Don Shula: I love him but it is suprising that the words just keep coming out. I think he tries to say the right things and I think he does. He respects New England and their accomplishments but they have 3 more to go to be perfect. After Spygate, now they are doing this within the rules and doing things the right way.

Cowherd: When 14-0, did you feel looser in the Playoffs?

Don Shula: We got beat the year before by Dallas in the Super Bowl. Our goal was to win the Super Bowl the next year. 16-0 is great but if New England doesn't go 19-0, Bill Billichick won't be happy.

Cowherd: Miami is a different city. Has alot of teams but has always been a Pro Football city, Is it harder to coach in Miami now?

Don Shula: My teams had the best winning percentage in all of sports for the years I was there. We tried to do the right thing and be judged by our accomplishments.

Cowherd: Are you owner (not sure what restaurant)?

Don Shula: We have 28 locations around the country, NY, Chicago and alot of the other big cities.

Cowherd: My Coach of the Year is Jeff Fisher, it is all about who did what with less, your thoughts?

Don Shula: I like Jeff Fisher but I am not up to date with what Tennessee has done. I think you pick the Coach of the Year when the Season is over, so you can evaluate the Playoffs and the Super Bowl.

Cowherd: What if a guy does a great job with limited talent?

Don Shula: You give him credit for that but I think you need to wait, why so eager to give it to him so early.

Don Shula: I liked Vince Young in college. Watching him in the NFL and watching him grow has been fun. Jacksonville has had a great season, my son is a QB coach there so I have an interest and of course Belichick.

Just a thanks for all the recaps you do Mick. They make the board a much more enjoyable place to get news and information.
