Here in a few minutes, after his break, he's supposed to talk about the Cowboys and what Emmitt Smith had to say about the squad recently. I know not a ton of people here like Rome, and that's fine, but I thought I'd share that with you for those who might be interested in listening to his radio program long enough to hear that segment coming up.

He's cracking some on Romo for not being able to handle TO. I guess unlike Garcia and McNabb were able too? wth?

He is busting Emmitts ##### some for losing his gig at ESPN and now selling pork. Not sure what thats about.

That was probably the right link. The segment is over so I'll summerize it real quick.

Basically he went over what Emmitt said recently about how he doesn't believe Wade could change, and that the players would buy it anyway, that Roy Williams isn't a number 1, never was a number 1, and how he never thought he was a number 1. He also said that Romo isn't a leader and that he didn't know if he could really be one even though he said he's going to take a bigger approach to that.

Rome broke that all down then said just because it's Emmitt, and no one likes him as an analyst, doesn't mean he's wrong. Rome said that all of what he said are fair claims and are things that will have to be proven this year. He made the statement that if Troy Aikman was the one who said these things no one gives it a second thought and just accepts it but since it's Smith they're up in arms about it.

He also said that he doesn't believe that Phillips has, or could, change and that he doubts that so he agree with Emmitt there and he said he doesn't believe Romo is suddenly going to be a leader cause he obviously doesn't have that personality.

He said since he couldn't handle Owens, and that's the reason that Owens is gone, that he's already proven he can't just take control as a leader on that team. Made the statement that if he could he'd have done it last year and Owens would still be with the team.

At the very end he took the chance to take a dig at him about how he dumped Jessica and said that if Romo ran his huddle, and team, like he did his relationships then people would listen. If he did things on the field, in terms of how he handles things, the same way he does when he ends relationships then people on the team would listen and take notice.

So basically it was a bunch more of the usual I suppose when it comes to people in the media. But I thought I'd share it with everyone none the less.

I guess it's much to do about nothing-- sorta like Emmitt's comments.

The "Romo couldn't handle TO" bit is a joke. And I can't think of a former player whose opinion I respect less than Emmitt Smith. Maybe Joe Theisman.

Without the backing of management, no QB could handle rogue players. Troy Aikman was one of the best leaders and players this franchise will ever see. But the 2nd half of his career was a complete waste because Jerry Jones thought it ok to install a coach with no discipline, even in his own personal life, and brought in players like Deion Sanders, of whom the owner absolved of all accountability.

That is what is so frustrating about the current era. The Cowboys could've played with any team in the league the last 3 years, yet we haven't sniffed a super bowl. Instead we've watched 3 prime years go down the toilet without even a wild card win. Why? Because Jerry Jones thought he could have the circus atmosphere and success at the same time. His release of the selfish Owens and players with similar attitudes was an explicit admission of the owner's guilt in the Cowboys' failure in recent years. And it makes the fans who've defended Jones and his absurd approach look doubly foolish.

Yet, for the first time since 2005, I believe this franchise is headed in the right direction, the ridiculous decision to keep Wade Phillips as HC notwithstanding. I wouldn't trade our roster for anyone else's. I don't say that as a blind homer. Read my past posts if you think otherwise. Warts and all, I don't think any team has the talent Dallas does. The roster is a bit thin in spots, but few if any teams can lay claim to having players among the best at half a dozen postions, and yet Dallas can.

I wish I could say the same about the coaching staff. That's why I'd say this is more like a 10 win team than what it should be, a 12 or 13 win team. But far better than Emmitt's 7 win prediction.

Just another update from the show but he announced that tomorrow he'll have Troy Aikman on for an interview. Just in case anyone is interested in keeping up with that so they can listen to Troy.

Emmitt is getting flak for the WAY that he makes his point. He's going over the top on this. Stating things in definitive absolutes. If he stated them as concerns, even serious concerns, people would be far more willing to listen and consider. Actually many of us have the same concerns at some level. We're just not over the top with it. (well, some here are  )

That is the way Aikman would and has done it. He'd avoid the absolutes and leave room for folks to disagree or draw their own conclusions. Its a subtle but powerful difference.

Its also why Aikman has a job as an analyst and Emmitt doesn't. And its part of why Irvin has been on again off again.

When Rome asks for Troy's opinion I suspect he'll express he has the same concerns that Emmitt does. He just won't act like he KNOWS the answer because the truth is yet to be played out.

What's ironic is that some of these ex-Cowboys don't demonstrate much leadership themselves. Too many, IMO, just bad mouth the current team and players without trying to be part of the solution themselves.

Troy, Mike, Roger and others would be exceptions to this.

Emmitt, IMO, would deserve whatever disrespect Romo would choose to throw his way after what #22 said about him.

But Romo will be too classy to ever fire back. He'll honor the past and the accomplishments of the great Cowboy players before him.

And with people whose opinions matter, Romo is already a great Cowboy. I look forward to him putting some playoff skins on the wall to further back it up.
