While I'm still going to school full-time at Arizona State, I work part-time as Players Services at a golf resort in the Phoenix area. Obviously, it's friggin hot!

Anyways, my neck gets EXTREMELY red while I'm in the sun (regardless of how much or how strong of sunscreen I put on). It never tans. My legs, and arms tan, but my neck just gets really red. I'm not worried about my neck not tanning, I'm just tired of my neck getting so red.

The weird thing, even though my neck gets so red, it doesn't at all like a sunburn, it is just beet red. Like I said before, I have tried reapplying sunscreen 3-4 times during my work shift, have tried a few lotions that were supposed to help, etc. But to no avail.

Anyone got any suggestions I could try?

Cover your neck up.

My friend used to mow lawns in the summer with his dad. He swears it's actually cooler to wear long sleeves.

May not be the most fashionable golf headwear, but it worked for the
French Foreign Legion in North Africa, stationed in the Sahara Desert...

Most sunscreens aren't any good... Try some Coppertone Water Babies Pure and Simple (or Sensitive, same thing) that has Zinc Oxide in it. It's a physical block unlike most sunscreens that are a chemical block, and it basically doesn't let anything in. Yeah, it's white, but not like the old-old zinc oxides you used to see... This stuff can be rubbed in so you don't see it. It's like $9 a bottle at Walmart or CVS or Target.

That, and wear a wide-brimmed hat!

A friend who is older had to have a cancerous mole cut out from under his eye... Looked terrible for a while. And he told even worse stories about bein in the waiting room with people who had parts of their ears cut off and a cowboy with the end of his nose chopped off. Skin cancer is no joke.

Rednecks are supposed to have mullets to protect their necks from getting red! :laugh2:

Answer: Grow a mullet!

Remember that scene where he finds out his cousin isn't really his cousin... Genius:laugh1:

My father likes to drink coffee in the summer. He says it keeps him cool by making him sweat.

fun fact, the spf rating on sunblock is actually just a way of telling you long it is going to take for the average person to start to burn. My advice, put sunblock on more often.

Gonna have to try that stuff.

For the people that said to cover it up and what not, we have a dress code and cannot cover our necks or have our hair down to our collars.

Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad! Basically a cold towel that wont drip or get your clothig wet. My son uses one during football practice. They're about bandana size and made out of some sort of stretchy type material that you wet. The water in the towel begins to evapoarte slowly and keeps the towel cool. I use it on the sidelines when he's in the game and love it. All the kids on his team use them to keep cool between series. I'd say wrapping it around your neck would do the trick.

Neutrogena sunscreen works great. You can get it in spf100. I have a bottle on the boat on the bike and in the truck. Tested by me from the summer sun of the Northeast to the beaches of Florida to the deserts of the Southwest.

I used to be known as Casper to some growing up. I've tried them all.

Move. Humans are not meant to live there.

Another fun fact: everything after SPF 15 is ALL THE SAME. Also, sunscreen doesn't have a long shelflife. You can't use sunscreen from last summer and expect it to work.

I don't know about that. Hasn't been the case for me personally.

By all the same you mean? If by all the same you mean blocks out harmful UV rays you are correct. If you mean the average fair skin person can put SPF 15 on one half of their body and SPF 50 on the other half and they will look the same on each side after 4 hours on a beach in Mexico you are wrong.
