It's only the first preseason game but we saw last night what we saw alot of last season the Cowboys moving the ball up and down the field piling up yards only to bog down in the redzone and having to settle for FG's. It's become a disturbing pattern that needs to change especially with the uncertainty at kicker. Part of the problem is Romo becomes very inefficient passing the ball once the Cowboys get inside their opponents 20 yard line. He becomes tentative not wanting to make a mistake and it's causing alot of errant throws. Throughout his career he's had a number of turnovers INT's and strip sacks in the redzone and he just doesn't look comfortable throwing the ball down there. Although he tossed 26 TD's last season he tossed the same number in 08 in 3 fewer games. In 07 he tossed 36 TD's so his TD percentage has been going down. He tossed a pick in the redzone early in camp that caused Wade to blow a fuse. I know Wade was talking about trying to run the ball in for TD's more but it does come down alot to having to pass the ball to score.
Romo hangs on to the ball down there not wanting to make a mistake which results in his protection breaking down and him forcing throws that go off target and others that are simply throw away. He had RW open for a TD and fired it way over his head. Dez Bryant will certainly help the situation with his incredible ball skills and body control. He was a TD machine in college and Romo will be able to take some chances with him. I could very easily see Dez score double digit TD's this season if he stays healthy. Our redzone woes haven't all been because of our passing game some of the problems have been a result of penalties and trying to get Barber outside where he's averaged just under 3 yards a carry. A false start and a no gain by Barber most always puts the Cowboys in a 3rd and long situation and Romo not wanting to take chances dumps one off for a 4 yard gain and the Cowboys end up settling for a FG.
