Reevaluating Weeden

I loved the TD to Terrance..... Hope it continues.

I hope weeden got better but he benefited from a gassed defense. Next game defense will be fresh.

I think it's fair to say facing a worn-out defense helped. He's shown he can hit those passes like the one to Williams, but he's also shown he can collapse under pressure, so it's going to be up the offensive line to keep the "fresh" defense off him and open some holes for the RBs.

Yeah with some starters on the OL out of the lineup and he suffered a concussion. If you get down to it, there is not a QB out there who will do much if the defense is all over them. I would say the positive there was no ints he did not just throw it up for grabs despite being under heavy pressure. These upcoming games that will be critical, take the sack throw the ball away but do not turn it over. Opportunities will come in the game that he will need to capitalize on but main thing do not put the team in the hole by turning the ball over 1st and foremost

I agree that he has to be smart with the ball when the pressure does get there. I don't think he panics under pressure. I just think he's like a lot of us men who can't multitask. The QB has to be able to process everything that's going on even with defenders bearing down on him, and Weeden has been thrown off if the play doesn't go as expected. I think we can't expect that to change, but he has to have had it drilled into his head what to do in those situations ... take the sack or throw it away.

Not everyone has that ability to still make a play when the called play breaks down, to process information up until the point that the chaos ends.

what ever he is our season rests on it so I am hoping he has improved because there is no one else

Lots of handoffs. Lots of screens. Lots of quick hitters....

Dont make Weeden decide between 2,3 options.

When they creep in and stack the box, and those DBs play a little too tight. chuck one deep.

Pray the D can hold on........

This isnt going to be easy at all...... we will be lucky to win 3 out of the next 7.....

Well, I'm still predicting 2-5 or 2-6 until Weeden proves it, but going back and watching what he did against Philly gives me some hope it can end up better than that.

true but again in the philly game he did check down when the primary was not open instead of just locking in on the primary target and throwing it. In another situation he does not see his man open and pulls it down and runs for the 1st. I think many QB have to be told to take the sack or throw it away, heck even Tony Romo difference is Romo has a lot more experience than Weeden. people look at Weeden age but in terms of NFL experience this is Weeden 4th year in the league and the 1st time he has had the same OC and same system in back to back season.

Yes, there were positives in those regards that give us reason to hope. I'm not going to get carried away with hoping, but I'm not going to dismiss the possibility that Weeden is a better QB for Dallas than he was last year. If he had not played Sunday, I would not feel there is any hope.

Were not going to be able to keep up with good offenses.......

We cant get behind and play catch up either.

Im not sure if we can do it or not, but if we can somehow get three Ws. Romo gets back. We at least have a shot.
Although that stretch of GB,Buff, Miami, NYJets wont exactly be easy pickings.....

10-6, maybe even 9-7 can win the East this year.

I'd feel better about that if he hadn't shown the same tendencies he's had in the past this preseason. When he's feeling the pressure, he just does not handle it well. We need to establish the running game enough and protect him well for Weeden to have success. (Again, you can say that for a lot of middle-of-the-road QBs and to some extent, for all of them.)

The fact is that virtually no defense is going to let the Cowboys establish the running game... just like what we've seen in the first two games. They're loading 8 in the box and putting in run blitzes. What going to work is doing what the Cowboys have done and Weeden did well on Sunday and that's hit the uncovered guy out of the backfield. The swing pass to the backs and the short passes to the tight-ends and WR's is what's going to help keep Weeden out of trouble.

I have no problem with that. I'd say teams will be even more geared up to stop the run, so we've got to use the short passing game. We don't need to abandon the run, though, but instead stick with it and rely on this line to establish itself. the more we show can still run despite teams expecting it, the easier it will be to pass.

Agreed.

I don't see them abandoning the run. Just more short/swing passes instead of hand-offs in order to help keep the defense from bunching in the box.

I'd like to Linehan adjust to what the Iggles were doing on Beasley, Weeden needs the Bease' avail along with the RB's as outlet checkdowns.........Eagles put Maxwell on Bease and were able to limit him drastically. Can anticipate other teams taking that route also.

Let me be the first to say I was hoping Dallas would find a better backup than Weeden based on his performances in both preseasons and in the Arizona game last year. He has some issues that I just don't think can be fixed.

However, I went back and watched his performance Sunday against a pretty good defense with the game still within reach and what I saw was a decisive and accurate quarterback. If we can get that guy while Romo is out, then we can win some games.

The reason for Weeden's success appeared to be fairly simple. He did not have to progress through a lot of reads and the line protected him. I think that second part is especially important. Pressure is all QBs' enemy, but Weeden seems to handle it especially poorly. If Dallas gives him time to throw and keeps where he is throwing simple, he has the arm strength and accuracy to get it there.

We just have to hope his head doesn't get in the way of his physical ability.

Hope he can lead us to victory against the Falcons !!
