Refs Really Do Suck League Wide, Dont Think Its Just Us

I know that a lot of us on here primarily watch only Dallas games and as such we tend to think there is a conspiracy against us to do all of the bad calls that go against us. Well I was bored this weekend and decided to watch a little of the playoff games and man, these refs are suppose to be the best of the best, the so called all start crews?

I am seeing blatant holding not being called, I am talking about DEs literally getting tackled.
I am seeing WRs literally getting tackled and hit early with no PI flags
I am seeing a ref that rules a sack in the pocket is considered "forward progress" so no more sack fumbles?
I am seeing ints that hit the ground not even being reviewed
I am seeing a QB outside the tackle box get called for intentional grounding
I am seeing rub routes, blatant pick routes, and blocking on screens beyond the LOS before ball is thrown

These are just a half a dozen things I noticed while catching some of the playoff games this weekend, and I didn't even watch an entire game from start to finish. If these are suppose to be the all-star crews of the best of the best of the refs......................wow

So maybe its not just us, maybe the refs just suck league-wide?

There is no conspiracy towards certain teams or any bias. It is a combination of suckage and favoritism towards certain players.

I'm sure it is tough calling a game but the ineptness is growing. Human error is something that can't be overcome.

Good point, but I don't remember the officiating being this bad in the past.

And yea, the so-called "name players" tend to get more calls. Its like Cam once said Hoculi (the ref with the huge arms) told him that he hadn't been in the league long enough to get a roughing flag. Supposedly this happened last year when Cam was on this rant that "he didn't feel safe in the pocket" anymore.

part of it is that the rule book keeps getting changed and no one really knows what is allowed and not; but a lot of it is just plain laziness and incompetence. the richest professional league in the US and I think #2 in the world behind Premier Soccer is the ONLY one without full time officials. THAT would help right there.

Did you see the Panthers game where a Saints defender shoved #11 out of bounds by a FULL FIVE YARDS on a 3rd and goal, with no call whatsoever?

Cowboy conspiracy theorists:

  1. Not the brightest bulbs.
  2. Don’t tend to watch football outside of the Cowboys; and
  3. Don’t participate on these threads because it undermines their “tha refz oUtta get Uzzz!!!” paranoid nonsense.

BTW, Jeff Tripplette just retired based largely on the egregiously horrible game he and his crew had calling the Chiefs game.

I think instant replay is the reason for how bad the refs seemto be. Instant replay challenges have destroyed the catch rule and helps makes these refs look bad. I think the only way to fix the catch rule is to do away with challenges and live with the call on the field.

It got worse when they added the automatic challenge to every score or turnover. It was fine when they just left it at coaches challenges.

If a ref is showing favoritism towards(or against) a player, that is, in fact, a bias...

I think bias from the refs is real and occurs every Sunday. It may not be for one team over another, but it is definitely for one player over another. Certain players like Tom Brady get roughing the passer calls if a DE sneezes on them, but Cam Newton gets drilled in the pocket repeatedly with no calls. Romo used to get drilled, and now Dak is getting his too. Blatant hits with no calls time and time again, many to the head. The #1 rushing DE (Lawrence) in the league for almost the entire year gets like 2 holding calls against him for the entire season? The number one LT (Smith) in the league is called for holding over and over again while no names get a pass. I am using Cowboys examples because I watch them, but having watched a couple of playoff games it appears to be the norm now. There are certain players that can do whatever they want with no fear of calls.

I also believe the NFL office has directed the refs to let the teams play. I think the declining attendance and bad press have forced some changes to try and rejuvenate the product. Nothing like flag-happy refs to kill a game. Unfortunately for the NFL, the few calls the refs do make seem to create controversy and sometimes impact the outcome of the game. There have been far too many of these types of calls this year.

As to the OP poster, the picks/rubs has been an issue for like 10 years. Other teams like the Patriots probably did some remedial number crunching and figured out the refs never call them. Brady gets so many wide open looks from these players it seems like his no name receivers are ninjas. That's why they don't care who the receivers are - they use a pick/rub system to get them open so they don't need to be pro bowlers.

All I can say is the key to winning in this league is beating the opposing team so badly the refs can;t take it away from you.

Go Cowboys!

What int hit the ground and wasn't reviewed?
What intentional grounding occurred outside the pocket?

The league has a problem. It’s not the holding calls and judgement calls. Humans are gonna miss calls. The big issues is when they don’t know the rules or misapply the rules and I think I’ve seen more of that this year than ever.

They need to fire MAJORITY of the current crop of officials and bring in new faces honestly. It's getting worse each year.

They have a problem but not sure full time officials really solved it. Can’t hurt but just don’t see how it helps. Most missed calls are human error and to me the biggest ones are when they misapply the rules that they’ve played under for a decade.
Like I said it can’t hurt but don’t see it being the real answer

"OMG, this is the worst officiating ever!"

Not even close. It's scrutinized more than ever, leading to the false perception that it's never been this bad. Go back and watch some of old films. Refs were running around like chickens with their heads cut off, bad spots, missed penalties, missed fumbles, missed incompletions called catches, you name it. But few games were on TV, there were not 24 hour sports networks, and there weren't message boards loaded with confirmation bias.

Triplette sucked for 20 yrs, they refused to fire him, he screws up a game this weekend and then retires. This weekend was horrible
