is this due to CBA and the uncertainity or the teams are getting wiser and not dishing out dollars ?

Something like 150-160 FAs are out there includng TO :) , must be a nerve-wrecking time for them and the agents.

I am surprised the boys didn't even have any significant visitors but can't blame them. Not many starting positions are open and there are not many sure shots.

What is more surprising is teams valueing their draft picks and not going after RFAs .

Check out the link in my signature. There are 159 RFAs available, at my last check.

RFA's have always drawn only minimal interest. Washington is about the only team who jumped on them with any regularity. Occasionally a team will feel a draft is really weak at a position of need and pounce on an RFA or the RFA will be so good they are worth more than a pick but it isn't common for more than a couple RFA's per year to change teams.

Teams can match and generally will now that the poison pill stuff has been admonished by the league and commish.

Teams who win seldom jump into FA with any real zeal. A guy or two added at certain spots, sure, but when teams start adding more than a few bodies it means things are not good. Free agency by and large is a sign of desperation. As much as we all clock it incessantly because the off-season is so long and dry seldom do Free Agents make even a quarter of the difference they were intended to.
