I'd keep him if his salary could be brought down but does anyone know the cap implications of releasing him?

Does he count 6.6 million against the cap this year?

Oh no you itn't? :lmao2:

You want to cut a guy that hasnt produced in 5-6 years? What the heck man?

Focus - we want to cut the guy that is still producing at a high level, but has lost alot of steps and is old.

He's clearly going to have to accept a paycut to stay here. I actually think he's got a little - not a lot -- but a little trade value as there may be several teams who think they can straighten him out.

This defense with RW as a rookie would be unreal. He was a beast and I thought for sure would be a hall of famer. What a turn for the worse...

His one positive quaility - really laying the wood on people - isn't even there any more. I wouldn't say he has much trade value at all. I would love to see him snap out of it but I just don't see it happening.

I think there are some coaches around the league who think that they can fix him.

There are coaches/gms that would take him, not because they think they can fix him but because they realize he is not as bad as some people here make him out to be.

But, you aren't trading that contract. No way.

We have to start trimming the fat - and what better way to start than with #38.

We still had Woodson back then. :(

I dont know his cap number exactly, but it is way, way, way up there. No way in hell he stays with his current salary, he will have to take a very large pay cut to stay.

With that being said, I dont think Roy will do it. The fact that he said in his interview the other day that he feels he belongs in a 4-3 system told me all I needed to know.

I cut his arse and send a message to the rest of the players that all this half-arse play is going to stop and stop now. It is time to start putting some fear into these players that think this is summer camp and everybody gets a participation ribbon.

Besides, Roy freakin blows. He was one of my favorite players and I bought his jersey his rookie year. He was a freaking beast and would just lay people out right and left.

He is now a shell of his former self. He plays scared, cant cover for jack, and he doesnt even hit anybody anymore. He just goes for an arm tackle and thats it, no attempt at all to blow up anybody.

Freaking pathetic what he has become.......a JAG.

:signmast:

I'd keep Davis over him at this point in all honesty, all things being equal. That's not to say Killah is better, but at least he is supposedly getting on guys who aren't working and is a ST ace.

We have enough excuse machines on the team without Roy.

What I don't get is that there doesn't seem to be as much debate on this guy as there was last offseason. It's as if everyone who was debating it before has resigned to the fact that he sucks after a year where he for all intents and purposes didn't play at all.

I don't see how you can definitively define him based off of last season. Maybe "Roy's PR Team" has just resigned itself to the fact that you can't argue with these people. Probably shouldn't have brought it up...:

I'd love to hear more from his PR team.

That 4000 post thread about "myths" last year really revealed how freaking semantic people on this board are.

Me, I give him a pass for his on the field play last season - not much evidence one way or the other. What really got me though was during his first injury, he didn't seem to be part of the team - Maybe he was on the sideline and I missed it but either way, he should have been there.

I don't consider myself part of Roy's PR team, but I don't get what there is to debate anymore. It's not about his play on the field anymore, because he was barely on the field last year. To me, it's all about dollars and cents.

These should be the factors the 'boys are weighing:

$6 million cap figure
Renegotiate or cut

Safety depth
I think they're going to draft another safety regardless of what they do with Roy, because Watkins and Davis have proven to be good backups. Davis is an UFA.

Word is Courtney Brown is afraid of contact. Probably his last training camp.

The Trae Bell dude is a ST demon, but not sure of his starting potential at the moment.

Safeties in draft
Haven't been following the candidates much, but it's obvious to me they should draft one.

I've been labeled part of the PR team in the past. BTW, we would make an outstanding PR firm!!!

But I admit that I don't know what the cap hit would be if we outright cut him. If we can restructure him, and he'll agree to it, then by all means. I'm all for saving money here if we can use it somewhere else.

I do the arguing and you negotiate the contract.

They'd save $4 million by cutting him.
