Here are the players that we let go. I think its now haunting us.

Ken Hamlin
Barbie Carpenter
Flo Adams
Nick Folk

We have to ask ourselves this question -- was it the fault of these players? Or was it because our coaches needed a scapegoat?

I think they needed to point the blame at someone else. Therefore, these players were released or traded.

Honestly, I miss Nick Folk the most. Everytime a see Buehler kick I have this gut feeling that something wrong is going to happen.

And when I heard that Flo is now the Steelers Right Tackle, I have to shake my head here. Many of us were saying that all we need to do is switch him to the right side of the line. The Steelers did just that and now he seems to be doing ok.

But to be honest Ken Hamlin was the biggest lost we had this season. Last year we were always in position against those long passes. Now all the DBs and safeties look lost back there. Hamlin was the QB of the defense. Even though he wasn't flashy but he coordinated where everyone is supposed to be.

Their presence is sorely missed. I wish we have a dependable safety or Flo Adams at RT. I especially miss Nick Folk. At one time is was Mr. Automatic.

That's why I think we are having lots of problems. If we had kept them we wouldn't be where we are today.

i wouldnt be so quick to dismiss.the only replacement that has done even close to adequate work is doug free.

That is your opinion, not mine. Only Folk, and at the time a change had to be made.

Releasing those players isn't haunting us. Not having better replacements (other that Free) is what's haunting us.

I don't have to ask myself the question.

Hamlin was overpriced for the production.

Carpenter never remotely played up to his potential and has been cut by 2 other teams since we traded him.

Flozell was the 2nd most penalized in the NFL over the past 5 years, and was committing false starts and holds as a way of compensating for not being able to get the job done any other way.

Folk flat out sucked. There was no way a team with playoff hopes could have stuck with him.

Ummm...no.

So you rather have Barron over Flo Adams at RT?

So do you favor Ball over Ken Hamlin?

I'm sorry Nick Folk is better than Buehler right now.

Bobby Carpenter is missed because we still haven't found his replacement.

Not finding their replacements was the problem, not getting rid of those guys. They all deserved to be released. We still have to wait and see to see if Akwasi and Sean Lee can perform, neither one Is getting a lot of time at the moment.

How many people wanted to keep Carpenter? Not very many. The same could be said for Ken Hamlin and Flo. Folk is a kicker and you never know about kickers, sometimes they bounce back, but more often than not once they lose it they never are the same. I'm glad Folk bounced back, but I don't lose any sleep over the fact that they let him go. This team, as a whole, has bigger problems than four players being released.

Yes your right. Thats why I think its haunting us that we can't find a replacement.

I just think its stupid to gamble on Ball and Buehler. I would have rather kept them. As you can see that gamble isn't paying off.

I agree with everything but Carpenter. Hamlin was like Choice is now. People want him gone for some WEIRD reason, but once he's gone and playing for the Deadskins and they are eating us up on the ground, then we'll feel horrible once again.

We always want to cut someone, that's our first instinct. All the cuts I saw fans wanting after a game, we'd have no players left but 3rd stringers.

Right now the way the defense is in disarray I would take Hamlin over Ball.

Hamlin was not playing up to his contract and with the opportunity to not take a huge salary cap hit this year, letting him go made sense. The mistake was thinking Alan Ball could replace him and not trying to upgrade the position in Free Agency.

Carpenter was traded because he never lived up to his first round pick, refused to play the physical-type defense required of a linebacker, and the team wanted to create more opportunities for recent high draft picks, Jason Williams and Sean Lee. Again, the issue is neither of them have stepped up and filled the nickel linebacker role that Carpenter finally contributed in last year.

Flozell had deteriorated to the point that he was nowhere near worth his contract. I too thought a move to right tackle or left guard whould help him but maybe he needed to be released to motivate himself to play better. He was only going to get worse with us and the team was eager to give Doug Free a chance.

Nick Folk. I agree with you. Why we didn't IR him I have no idea. He appears to be fine now with the Jets.

People said Ball could not be worse than Hamlin. They were wrong.

It would be the same thing in my opinion. One pile of trash for another.

-Flozell is equally as bad as Barron but with a higher price tag
-Same can be said for Ball/Hamlin
-09 Nick Folk was as bad as 10 Buehler.
-it is still wait and see on Sean Lee

Yes I was, they all stink. Outside of that one pro bowl season he was just as bad as Ball. Barron and Flozell were one and two in penalties last season. Flozell's dominance clearly came to an end one or two seasons ago.

I think trading Crayton has hurt us, but it didn't seem like we would be able to get him on the field.
