When you lose a game badly on national TV after just losing a game so badly on national TV, it led to a “players only” meeting of defensive players, questions linger over this 2026 version of the Dallas Cowboys and its ability to be even a decent team.

RELEVANT QUESTIONS NEEDING TO BE ASKED
  1. Is this a “talented team” that is underachieving or is it just not that talented?
  2. Are we getting out-coached every week or are our players just not executing? Or both?
  3. Are our coaches putting enough emphasis on minute details that make a difference?
  4. Is this team already a sinking ship or can it right the ship and get on track?
  5. Do we have the right people in place from top to bottom to fix this team?
I’m curious what fans think this morning. If so led, give us your answers.
Here’s mine:
  1. This team has a mediocre level of talent that is slightly underachieving. This is a 9-8, 8-9 roster with below average coaching. That’s why we’re 2-4.
  2. We are consistently getting out-coached each week. Our coaches are flummoxed.
  3. The best teams pay attention to details. I haven’t seen that in a Cowboys team in years.
  4. This ship is taking water to the point players may already be doing the “every man for himself” routine now.
  5. We have a terrible front office who has proven time and again to not know how to build a roster of players and coaches that can compete for a championship.
If we had a normal owner, we would have had a new GM years ago. We all know what the root cause of ALL this is.

1) On offense, we have pretty high level of talent. They are definitely underachieving. D is under talented & injured.

2) Both

3) No. They aren't even accounting for the big details much less the small ones.

4) Sinking Ship. Division may be so bad that we remain relevant as the slowest ship to sink though.

5) Of course not. Even though I can't entirely blame them for their moves since the GB playoff loss. They made moves that "should have" made us a better team.

Let me pose a question to you Bob.

(Love the post by the way)

What if the answer is. This team isnt talented.

On paper, sure.

Against bad teams, sure.

Against football teams that are properly coached and decent?

No.

This team's "Talent" has been bragged about for years, yet I see teams like Carolina, with less talent, play well.

IMO, it’s a matter of years of over prioritizing offense over defense. It's also a collection of talent that doesn’t seem to understand the team concept. There don't appear to function as a cohesive unit. Too many do their own thing out there instead of working together.

It almost has to be coaching. Players don't seem to be hustling that's true but the scheme isn't ahead of anybody

The offense on paper should be more effective than it has. QB1 is regressing, but his play caller isn't helping him much at all. I'd put coaching malpractice as issue #1, and the play of the QB as issue #2.

The defense has some guys I'm fond of individually, but they're banged up, a few guys are playing out of position, they're undisciplined as they come, and you won't see a team that tackles as poorly as this crew.

Special Teams, which has been a strength the last several years, is now a complete net negative. Although the eye test tells me Anger is having a pretty decent year.

When you have a team that's going through this type of adversity, you need a guy in charge with experience, a vision, a path, and some answers. Jerry and Son settled for this coaching staff, so what you see is what you get unfortunately. The three most important coaches on a football team don't give you any sort of competitive advantage.

Oh I think that is a great question. I think at best, the talent level on this team is mediocre.

And most of the talent is on the offensive side of the ball. The defense has no viable pass rusher, below average LBs, and an average secondary (and that’s after the Porter trade)

The biggest problem is (as you know) we have a front office that literally doesn’t know HOW to build a quality roster and coaching staff capable of maximizing its talent.

  1. Is this a “talented team” that is underachieving or is it just not that talented?
The offense is talented In some areas and deficient in others. Steele is not good. Fergusons highly over rated. And Javonte should be a quality backup. Dak is far too inconsistent to win anything of consequence unless everything around him elevates him.

You need a new quality starter for Steele, and Javonte that are not on the roster now. Play Spann Ford over Ferguson permanently.

On defense see Note 1 below
2. Are we getting out-coached every week or are our players just not executing? Or both?

Yes to some degree, but I think we over value our players and over pay them which is the larger issue.

3. Are our coaches putting enough emphasis on minute details that make a difference?

I think we have dumb players that do stupid things. The coaches are not telling Dak to throw 5 interceptions in two weeks. He has reverted back to bad habits.

4. Is this team already a sinking ship or can it right the ship and get on track?

The NFCE is up for grabs. We can win the division. The question is do we want to? If we hadn’t given up our draft picks I might be lobbying for tanking in a few weeks.

If we plan to really win the NFCE we need to add more players to fix what is wrong with the team. I would trade Pickens away now and get enough talent to fix the defense this year.

5. I don’t know if we do or not. How do you judge a coach if his players do not have enough talent, are stupid, won’t follow the game plan?

Do we have the right people in place from top to bottom to fix this team?

Note 1: On defense you need your injured players back AND at least one more corner other than Bland. Bland is cooked. You aren’t winning anything consistently with Bland playing.

You need two more linebackers, in a bad way. I would have loaded up with linebackers in the draft.

You also need two legitimate pass rushers to add to the mix. We did put pressure on Love last night but it wasn’t enough and we need guys who can cover.

I think coaching improved yesterday, but I don’t know how you win with these players. I’m sure we could upgrade the coaching too, but realistically our players (as a team) are not good enough.

I detect no lies in this post.

It's appropriate & very much warranted
