Remember how great the pre-Goodell days were?

Suspensions for steroids, yes. But no suspensions for marijuana, Adderall, DUIs, molly, purple drank, etc. We weren't always worried that one of our players would be gone for 4, 10, 14 games and talking about the randomness of the process how they get reinstated (Gregory)... And while I agree with suspensions for being CONVICTED in a court of law for a felony like domestic violence, the current NFL has gone too far with its personal conduct policy too (underinflated balls?). Let the courts handle this stuff and punish if they get convicted, not otherwise... I don't think Goodell's policies have done anything to "clean up" the NFL (I bet the drug use stats are effectively the same), instead they have just publicized every incident that results in a suspension, making the NFL look worse. I miss the good 'ol days.

Ah, the Halcyon days of yore that never really existed and if they did weren't all that great either.

You must not remember Leon Lett.

Goodell has overseen a period of the owners making a lot of money. But he's just awful in terms of what he's done for the public perception of the league, and it's ridiculous to have good players losing so many games for recreational drug use. A flat game or two fine and an increased and rigorous testing schedule for each offense is plenty. This 4-10-16 game escalation just hurts everybody and really does nothing to curb medicinal/recreational pot use.
