*** happened to that? Can we get some quick slants to WRs like Roy and Austin who run that route best. Can we get him in a rhythm early in games and let the kid just ball.

His ints were never that much of a problem with me, it was his fumbles. Now he's keeping 2 hands on the ball and obviously doing a better job with that. Can we just let him be him. He has an uncanny ability to see the whole field while scrambling or being on the run.

To me this is what Romo friendly should be and none of the other BS.

We have the best rushing attack in the league...once barber and jones gets back...this should be a team predicated on the run.

I agree but I have a problem when someone puts Routes, best and Austin in the same sentence. :lmao:

Should but won't be. Fire Crotch won't have it that way.

Have you seen him run slants? Honestly, they are a thing of beauty. Sadly, that's the only route I can speak of for Austin with any certainty.

Yes, it should when Felix gets back. But generally, rushing attacks don't even get a lot of production in the 1st quarter of NFL games.

Our number one objective going into games should be to get the QB in a rhythm. His play determines how our weapons play and how explosive our offense can be. As you could see from the Denver game, it also dictates how successful the running game can be when the 8th guy creeps in the box.

Slants open up the outside running game. Felix is great at running off tackle.

Run the ball, throw slants, check down to witten.

Thats it Red. It's not difficult.

Yes, that is definitely one of Romo's strengths...:banghead:

To play devil's advocate, shouldn't what we did against Denver have gotten Romo into rhythm? He was something like 11 for 14 at the half, having attempted mostly dumpoffs.

Typically, in the past when people have talked about the need to get him into a rhythm early, it's always suggested we give him easily completable passes early -- screens and such -- to get him going. We did that against Denver yet he was more off than ever late.

I've been a big, huge Romo supporter. I still don't think we should get rid of him. But I don't know that I necessarily pin his current struggles right now on others. Are receivers running the wrong route occasionally? Possibly. Is every play call the best? No. But other QBs have to go through a lot worse than "managing" to make plays with Witten, Roy Williams and Barber around. The cast could be a lot worse.

My hope is he's merely in a rut right now as he tries to sort through all the criticisms and attempts to find himself as a player. For I believe he can get through a rut. Hopefully, it's not that he has unraveled to a point of no return.

One last thing...the reason I take this stance is because, well, just look at all the various opinions of what people are saying we need to do to get him back. We have threads suggesting to reign him in, others saying let him sling it around, some saying he's not confident, others saying he's too confident (throwing at Bailey, heaving deep against the Giants to Hurd, etc.); we have suggestions that we need to get him into a rhythm and theories that we're restraining him.

My head is literally spinning. I just hope he gets through this.

Which is what makes the direction of this franchise so baffling. We trade for a guy who, among other things, might be best at running slants -- yet we have a QB who hasn't shown to be that great at that sort of throw.

It almost reeks of the sort of move made by a GM who isn't that astute and goes more by the name of a player than how their style might fit into what his team wants. But that's certainly not the case  , so what is it?

I was watching some 06' season highlights and Romo looks like a completely different QB physically. He looks about 20 pounds lighter and is comfortable in the pocket. Man those were the days. Romo needs to drop 15-20 pounds.

It's interesting to look at old head shots of Romo -- like the one NBC used the other night. His face looked considerably thinner in 2006. I wonder how much, if at all, his weight has changed since then.

No doubt. He really let himself go. If he wasn't an NFL QB where you have to be active most days of the week, he would be in terrible shape. Tony isn't the most accurate QB either, so he should really focus on strengthening his core to be able to sidestep in the pocket and step into the throw. He just looks out of shape and not in good health.

The problem is that if he lost 20 lbs, he would literally get killed behind our offensive line.

Bulking up keeps QBs from getting injured, seriously. Why do you think you never see any bean-pole QBs???

Because they wouldnt last till the water got hot as the saying goes.

He had better WR's to throw to. They made him look better.
