Remember Sam Williams?

Great teams most often have great defenses. Great defenses normally have great D lines that substitute very good linemen to be constantly fresh and applying pressure. Sam Williams will be a very good member of their rotation.

He's been a disappointment. He missed all of 2024. But even before that, he had 4 sacks as a rookie in 15 games. Then he followed that up with 4.5 sacks the next year in 17 games. Who knows what he's going to look like after missing a whole year with a serious knee injury. I don't expect much and this is very likely his last year in Dallas.
For sure he must have had more penalties than sacks.

sorry, I never much liked Lawrence, so mentioning him is not winning argument. he was way over paid and under performed.

and we are going to one play,!!!! where he did something good and you are jumping up and down celebrating!!!. he is a 2nd round pick. should be regular starter and high contributor. instead he is a part time situational pass rusher.

if you want to talk about one play in 300 snaps...I can do the same for 100s of players. no, make it a 1000 players who had that one big play they made....
its about consistency. its about being a complete player. he is neither of those. and not only that, he has been average on special teams, something that is for now should be his bread and butter. he single handedly has had several stupid plays on special teams, allowing the other team to continue their drives, costing us games.

they trusted him so much, they signed a whole bunch of other rotational players and selected another one in the 2nd round of the draft.

sorry, color me not impressed. he has not lived up to a 2nd round pick. he is not very smart.

if he is let go he is easily replacable. in fact I predict that after this season, we won't pick up his option and we let him walk.
Lol,
Who exactly are these “whole bunch of rotational guys” they signed?

They signed Turner who’s played in 31 of 68 possible games as a stop gap and is unlikely to make the team barring an injury to someone else.

They resigned Fowler (who’s just slightly more than a stop gap) after Lawrence walked!
They drafted Kneeland to replace Lawrence after Goulston who they drafted to replace Lawrence didn’t workout and they let him walk!

They drafted DonEz because he was by far the best player on the board and there was no way they could pass him up!

In his 3 seasons here it was painfully obvious Quinn gave pass rush snaps based on league seniority. They had Williams running down on punts to get him on the field. They let Armstrong and Fowler both walk last year because it was painfully obvious it was time to get Williams more pass rush snaps after his 2023 season. The fact that they overreacted by resigning Fowler doesn’t change that reality!

Will Sam Williams be cut or kept?! Nobody knows at this juncture. Stay tuned for the answer to that question. To be continued . . . He'd best get busy if he wants to stick around -- that's for sure!

Turner and Fowler, Drafted Kneeland and Eze in the past two years. so they signed two. drafted two. on top of Sam Williams who has been very underwhelming.
and now, its Quinn's fault for not letting sam williams play. where did you pull that one out of? I mean all I hear is excuses after excuses for a guy who will not be here in 2026 most probably. If they trusted him, if they believe he could do it, they wouldn't have signed Fowler or Turner. and there were other players they could have picked in the 2nd, a position they already had 4 players on the team, specially if Williams would have been considered a good starter....they could have drafted players like Will Johnson, a CB and a need for the team.

why defend sam williams so much? why are you so in love with him?

Before his knee injury, he was the fastest pure Dlineman on the team (excepting Micah). If he has recovered from his knee injury and has matured, he has as much talent as any to be an NFL starting RDE. In his short career, I have seen flashbacks of Harvey Martin.
Fast means nothing

Hmmm… and they let 4 walk over the last 2 seasons!
Prior to FA and the draft they had 3 legitimate DEs on the roster, when they’ve been carrying 6 or 7 the last 3 or 4 years, that’s counting Williams coming back from an ACL and Kneeland who was actually a disappointment. Oh and then there’s Wheat who got benched last season despite being desperate for DEs (just bodies)!

Maybe it’s because I’m astute enough to realize 9 1/2 sack in the limited pass rush snaps he received is fairly impressive. So much so they were comfortable letting both Armstrong and Fowler walk for the 2024 season!
Again he had 4.5 in just over 300 snaps in 2023, Lawrence had 4 in 900, Fowler had 4 in just under 600 in the same season!
But hey, you’re babbling about a corner who fell out of the top 10, and has rumors of a wrecked knee circling around him!

They may trade him. But no chance he is cut

Parsons, EZ, Williams, Fowler, Kneeland will be the likely guys

Sam 6'4 260 4.46 speed. If I recall correctly, Sam is solid vs the run and he can get after the QB too, so I believe he can beat out Turner. Also, could Sam be the most balanced DE?

Honestly, Sam should be on the trade block imo, but I get wanting to have depth at the position. Sam can stick on the Cowboys roster due to his ability to add value on STs, while, the team hopes he can breakout under the coaching of Whitecotton n Flus.

That's what I mean he has no ties to this coaching staff, the guy they brought in Turner hey that's their guy. Sam better get it together

so he was over drafted? you don't draft a part time player in the 2nd round. you want a player that can be a regular starter with high level of contribution.

he played two seasons, where he came in only on passing downs and his job was to rush the passer, benefiting from those around him to get a few sacks (4 if you are counting).
he has had limited time, because he is not good enough. we are in the 4th year of him in the league and you are making excuses on why he has under performed.
he is a decent pass rusher. but its obvious the team doesn't fully trust him and is getting ready for his departure, given they signed Fowler, drafted Eze and Kneeland and looking for more.

and between the ears is my point. he is not a smart player and that makes him a liability.
No, he didn't only play passing downs. No I'm not making excuses for him and no he isn't only benefitting from those around him. He had 4 sacks his rookie year and 4 1/2 sacks year two. It was only his first two years. We had Micah locked in on one side and Tank as a starter on the other and a bunch of guys rotating in, including Fowler who he outplayed and who after he left that same rotation that you are criticizing Williams for underperforming in had 10.5 sacks last year, yet Williams outplayed him and was one of the biggest reasons we didn't resign him in 2024.

Guess what, this year's 2nd rounder isn't going to start either. He is going to be more of a pass rusher than a run stopper also and last years 2nd rounder is going to be more of a run stopper like Tank than a pass rusher and there is nothing wrong with that either. I'm not sure how to make what I'm saying clearer: He has not underperformed and I'm not making excuses. He is getting to the QB in his limited snaps. Micah will be our only guy who gets 10 sacks because very few guys do and because none of the others will likely get enough sacks to do so.

Hes basically done imo. maybe if he has a great season he could earn a cheap 1 year prove it deal

well, let me qualify why I said I didn't like him. He got paid as a top 5 and top 10 DEs, with expectations of pressuring QBs and getting sacks....not stop the run. you can find run defending DEs for a lot cheaper.....so that is my point and that's what you just said....
I'm not really sure you understand DE play in the NFL. I can't really keep discussing it with you. I'll just bow out here.

Hes basically done imo. maybe if he has a great season he could earn a cheap 1 year prove it deal
That doesn't make any sense at all. Maybe if he has a great season he earns a cheap prove it deal? That would mean he is coming off a great season and has just proven it  .
If he puts up 10 sacks which is what I'd call a great season for a pass rusher he's getting paid in free agency.

He's a guy that our former DC fell in love with, and drafted. With no affiliations to him with the new staff, does he have anyone here to vouch for him at this point? He has the potential and talent to be something special, but does he want to be? Sucks that he sustained the injury he did, but it's time for him to fight back and beat out guys that these new coaches have brought in. Does he make the cut?? Please give your thoughts
WHO ???
:lmao:

so Kneeland got injured and a rookie and he is a disappointment, yet Williams is not!? really.

and like I said, the stats on limited pass rush snaps, meaning about 273 in 2022, and 303 in 2023. that's not limited that's about a 3rd of the snaps. and that tells me they don't really trust him to be an every down player, and only gets in on passing downs just to rush the passer, where then given the situations his chances of getting sacks is higher. he doesn't have to think run. he says, pin my ears back and just get after the QB...that statistics would go way way way down if he played 850 snaps and had to play rushing downs.

not sure why you are so in love with Sam Williams, a player who most probably won't be on the cowboys next year....I doubt if the team picks him up given they have drafted two players to replace him.
