Remember Sam Williams?

No, he didn't only play passing downs. No I'm not making excuses for him and no he isn't only benefitting from those around him. He had 4 sacks his rookie year and 4 1/2 sacks year two. It was only his first two years. We had Micah locked in on one side and Tank as a starter on the other and a bunch of guys rotating in, including Fowler who he outplayed and who after he left that same rotation that you are criticizing Williams for underperforming in had 10.5 sacks last year, yet Williams outplayed him and was one of the biggest reasons we didn't resign him in 2024.

Guess what, this year's 2nd rounder isn't going to start either. He is going to be more of a pass rusher than a run stopper also and last years 2nd rounder is going to be more of a run stopper like Tank than a pass rusher and there is nothing wrong with that either. I'm not sure how to make what I'm saying clearer: He has not underperformed and I'm not making excuses. He is getting to the QB in his limited snaps. Micah will be our only guy who gets 10 sacks because very few guys do and because none of the others will likely get enough sacks to do so.
he played 273 in 2022, 303 in 2023..... that's about a 1/4 and 1/3 of the snaps. doubt he played many rushing down snaps unless the offense decided to run on that down.

he didn't really outplay fowler. he was about the same and that's not saying much for a guy who at this point is nothing but a journey man. so comparing him to fowler is actually not making a good case.

and the point about draftign DEs in the second round, expected starters is just that....if they liked Sam Williams, then why draft DEs two years in a row....

he is not a very smart player. he is a liability. coaches don't really trust him. and his one forte is pin your ears back and just rush. which limits his usage

not saying that's a bad thing, but I don't gush over players that are 1/2 trick ponies like you do. that's lowering the standards and the bar because your are just in love with a player, given how hard you have been defending him.

I'm not really sure you understand DE play in the NFL. I can't really keep discussing it with you. I'll just bow out here.
I do understand. better than you do actually given how much you have gushed over williams, who won't be on the cowboys team in 2026.

and secondly, lawrence was paid top 5 money, do you think he produced at top 5 level? apprantley you do because you think he deserved his contract.
sorry, I tend not to lower my standards to defend a player because I have taken sides and want to argue otherwise.

good luck.

so Kneeland got injured and a rookie and he is a disappointment, yet Williams is not!? really.

and like I said, the stats on limited pass rush snaps, meaning about 273 in 2022, and 303 in 2023. that's not limited that's about a 3rd of the snaps. and that tells me they don't really trust him to be an every down player, and only gets in on passing downs just to rush the passer, where then given the situations his chances of getting sacks is higher. he doesn't have to think run. he says, pin my ears back and just get after the QB...that statistics would go way way way down if he played 850 snaps and had to play rushing downs.

not sure why you are so in love with Sam Williams, a player who most probably won't be on the cowboys next year....I doubt if the team picks him up given they have drafted two players to replace him.
Hmmm… 0 sacks in about 500 snaps vs 9 1/2 in under just under 600, not to mention not much in stats in any other category.
This for someone who’s was expected to take over the starting strong side role from Lawrence.
Yeah, I’m a bit apprehensive.
At least in his limited snaps Williams has looked like he could fill in for Micah in the event of an injury without it being a complete disaster!

It will go one of 2 ways, either he’ll need the season to reacclimate fully from his injury giving them the opportunity to resign him on a lower one year contract or he’ll be able to take advantage like Goulston did jumping from 1.5 to 5 sacks and he’ll get an offer they can’t pay!

That doesn't make any sense at all. Maybe if he has a great season he earns a cheap prove it deal? That would mean he is coming off a great season and has just proven it  .
If he puts up 10 sacks which is what I'd call a great season for a pass rusher he's getting paid in free agency.
I wouldnt give anyone a long contract after 1 good season that's why.

he is replacement for lawrence who got paid top 5 money and didn't produce and everyone gushed about him being great against the run. Kneeland is much better run defender than WIlliams.

and this is Williams last chance. if he does what he did in his first two years, then he is not getting resigned. that will be the tell tale.

again, not sure about allt he gushing over a part time back up DE.....

we dont remember him, most of us dont even remember hes on the roster.

what we do remember is the posters who thought so highly of him, they couldnt shut up about a player who accomplished nothing in teh NFL. thats what we remember

He's got a lot of competition between Ezeiruaku, Fowler, and Kneeland. But you can never have enough pass rushers. I like the DE/Edge group.

1. Williams will need to be available, both healthy ad no off the field issues.
2. I doubt they cut him. They may not extend him but a team always needs depth along the DL

He has been Randy Gregory 2.0

10 talent .......... -10 brains
He is excellent at rushing the punter on ST.

He isn’t so excellent at understanding that when you have a lead and are getting the ball back anyway that you don’t sell out to block a punt on 4th and very long, or jump offside on 4th and 4….but everyone seemed to love the last ST coach. I didn’t.

Honestly I wonder if getting cut would bother him at all. Hes good enough where another team will pick him up, and if he ends up in the right spot might not be buried down the depth chart like he would be in Dallas even if he makes the roster.
Why would it bother him? He's already made more than double what I have in my 60 years.

Sam Williams Career Earnings: $4,761,176

Seriously, the sheer amount of money floating around makes players really not care all that much. I mean, he KNOWS that if he is cut, he'll catch on somewhere else for millions more.

He's a guy that our former DC fell in love with, and drafted. With no affiliations to him with the new staff, does he have anyone here to vouch for him at this point? He has the potential and talent to be something special, but does he want to be? Sucks that he sustained the injury he did, but it's time for him to fight back and beat out guys that these new coaches have brought in. Does he make the cut?? Please give your thoughts
Sink or swim time for him. Either he takes that next step and earns an extension or he will be on another team next season.
