    The Coach: Jimmy Johnson

    Key Roster Names:

    QB - Aikman
    RB - E. Smith
    RB - Moose
    WR1 - Irvin
    TE - Novacek
    OGs - Newton, Gogan
    OTs - Tuinei, Cheek
    C - Stepnoski

    Pretty good offense there, right?

The 1990 Cowboys started off 3-7. There was no social media, but they were getting CRUSHED by the media at the time. They said Johnson was in over his head (that would change just 6 games later), Aikman was being vilified because the offense was pathetic (they score 20 points once in 10 games), etc. Yet, in a terrible NFCE at the time, they managed to win 4 in a row and needed to finish just 8-8 to make the playoffs. Spoiler: Aikman got hurt and we lost the last two, finishing 7-9.

I hold the 90's Cowboys in high regard, maybe one of the best teams ever assembled. Still, good teams and good coaches can have bad years.

You want to switch coaches? Okay. Be prepared for some possible losing, though. Even with a great team, it may take years before another coach gets a team to gel, and many of today's players might be past their peak performing years.

In 1996, I didn't consider our team old and the roster was almost exactly the same as our SB teams. No more SBs, though.

Pfft.. Haven't you heard the expression "If at first you don't succeed, try try try try try try try try try try and try again ad nauseum until you do!" ??? Jeez.

Apparently some people would rather stick with a proven loser than risk change in an effort to actually get better.

    Sad.

Was Jimmy in his tenth season as a headcoach when this happened? Garrett has had plenty of chances to produce. And a couple of talented teams to do it with. But still we got nothing.

On the other hand, if they keep Garrett we can look forward to another 9 years of mediocrity? Doug Pederson won a SB in his second season as the HC of the Eagles with a backup QB. I know this, if they do nothing, noting will change. At least hiring a new coach will be an attempt to do things better.

I agree this Cowboys team is not the 1992-1995 Dallas Cowboys. Not many teams are. But I also see with my own eyes how poorly Garrett manages games and his players.

The Rams, Ravens, and 49ers rebuilt in the time Garrett has been the head coach. There's plenty of proof that it doesn't take a decade to turn a team around.

I'm going to go out on a limb here with this declaration...

Not all coaches that have a losing season are the next Jimmy Johnson.

I can take a few more years of losing but I cannot take another game with clapper on the sideline.

Rookies and old players with a coach that wanted to run off the old players asap so that he could bring in his guys. That what I see. Garrett sucks and we need a new HC. My two cents.

LOL, because keeping Garrett would eliminate possible losing

yeh, keep re-living in the 90's.
H.G. Wells' Time machine apparently still operational.

Decades and Decades ago, while we're witnessing up coming teams of this time, age and era, like Ravens, Niners, that are clearly establishing their front office, coaches, franchise QBs
and player personnel and properly working with them accordingly.

Remember how Philly went from the horror house that was Chip Kelly to Doug Pederson,.. and still won a SB with a backup QB (Folk) whereas we are still stuck on just 3 playoff wins
    in 10 years.

1990 was Jimmy's 2nd year coming off one win in 89, with a 2nd yr QB, 1st yr RB, and 3rd yr wr who had yet to come in to his own. Team was in full rebuilding mode and was barely starting to acquire talent. There is no comparison to what is going on now..

Yes, and in 1991, they hired Norv Turner as the offensive coordinator and that changed everything for them.

That's like saying Dallas hired Switzer & won it all.

Gruden won with Dungy's team just as the Steelers Tomlin, won with Cowhers.
