Hard to believe its been 12 years.

I remember seeing Mike Helton make that statement like it was yesterday.

The sport has never been the same. Nobody was able to replace the Intimidator as the face of NASCAR. Nobody else has had "IT" like he had.

I was a big fan of his really loved watching him race. Really miss seeing him on the track. I remember watching the race and saw the accident but thought nothing of it. Race was over and Waltrip won, I was hungry so went out to grab something to eat. When I got home my buddy called me up and said can you believe Dale was killed in the race? I though he was just playing around, he told me you need to turn on the TV. I was stunned. I had seen that same kind of accident a thousand time and the driver would walk away, heck I have seen crashes that looked worse and the driver walked away.

I think that if he had been told he would go out at the end of a Daytona 500 he would have said

"That is EXACTLY how I want to go out."

Dale Sr. was the man! Still is in my book. I actually cried a little when I learned he died. He was the reason I became a Jr. fan when Jr. began making a name for himself in the Busch Series.

He'd be driving for DEI. That organization went right down the tubes when the boss died.

He's the reason 99% of Jr. fans became Jr. fans.

Not just go out in the final turn of the 500 but knowing his race team was going to finish 1-2.

He didn't even try to win that race.
