I'm in the market for a new remote control. I would love universal one. All the remotes I have that goes along with my tv and satellite service sucks.

Any recommeditions? TIA

If you have a really good one but paid a nice penny I'm open to it. I just want one I can invest in and will last a long time.

I have the Harmony One remote to control all my AV crap and I love it. I had the Logitech touchscreen Harmony 1100 before, which is all touchscreen and minimal buttons and I hated it. Besides the fact that you have to look at it everytime you want to do anything, it requires two hands to use.

I'd definitely recommend the Harmony One, it's a little on the pricy side for a remote but being able to push one button that clearly says "Watch TV" or "Play X-Box" and have everything set itself for the correct deives to turn on, correct inputs, etc. is worth it.

Especially when you have guests over who either can't or won't learn how to set everything just to watch TV or listen to the radio.

Does it work with all DVRs? (cable, directv, or may be even Tivo)

EDIT: Damn, that is an expensive remote! :laugh2:

They have deals on it all the time, I got mine for 90 bucks after rebates but I haven't seen it that price lately, usually you can find it for $150.

It works with everything. Logitech has a program that they update with codes all the time, so you're not even programming codes into it.

You just get on the program, put in the model of device you want and what it's used for (for example you may use your xbox to play games, but also as a DVD player, so when you click "Watch DVD" it'll turn on your xbox as well). It's pretty idiot proof.

It can also learn from old remotes, if by some chance it's not in the database.

I use mine to control my air conditioner and remote control fan even.

It sounds like the remote for me, but I have two kids (10 and 12) who seem to enjoy dropping the remote and breaking it. At $150 for it, that sounds like tossing $150 in the trash within six months.

You can't go wrong with the logitech remotes...

I have one and it works well. Easy to program on your PC and I haven't found a device it won't control...

I second the vote for the Logitech Harmony line.

The Harmony One is nice, and worth every penny, but they have a full line and you can find one to suit your budget and needs. I'm currently using the 650 model and I love it. You can customize just about every aspect so it does everything you want, how you want. The 650 goes for about $75. I've got a 6 year old 9 year and 12 year old and they have not been able to put it out of commission.

Harmony One, yes, I would never trust my family to hold it though. I let them use the regular remotes if they come by. Not sure why people can't just be careful with their electronics.

But yeah it is sweet switching through the macros and programming the buttons to capture commands that were not pre-installed by Logitech on their web portal app.

Make a wrist band with a short tether attached to the band and remote.

The Harmony is pretty rugged, I think it'd take a healthy amount of abuse to destroy the thing and from my experience, Logitech support is great.

I had a previous gen Harmony for maybe 3 or 4 years and then one of the buttons got annoyingly sticky (I suspect someone spilled soda on it, but of course no one admits it). I called them up and they sent me a replacement without even waiting to receive the one I had.

I had 2 of the Harmony 360 remotes (designed specifically with the X-Box 360 in mind) and it worked reasonably well, but certainly had it's faults. Not all of the functions worked all the time, and it had difficulty learning from other remotes. It also would turn things off when I didn't want it to.

I don't know how their newer remotes perform and if they have any issues or not.

Does the Harmony One do both IR and bluetooth? I know there aren't a lot of remotes that do both, but with the PS3 it would be a bonus.

I have the logitech adapter for ps3 it is like 40 bucks, but you could find a better deal if you search hard for it. I use it to watch blu-rays with the Harmony 1.

As if I could get them to put the wrist band on in the first place!

Like everyone else said get the harmony one. Yeah it is a little expensive but you control everything in one remote and their are other cool features like Activities you can add that controls what you want to do.

I have to agree with the prevailing opinion in this thread. Get a Harmony (any of them, really, depending on the features you can't live without). You won't regret it. They're all I've used over the last 6 or 7 years or so, and I'll never use anything else. MOST other universal remote out there are positively stone-age in comparison and having/needing more than one single remote control in my house is laughable to me now (even though I own one separate remote for three different rooms).

They've also been mostly rock-solid durable, too...at least as durable as any other remote you can buy. I have a 14 year old and a 6 year old, tiled floors throughout my house, and am not concerned when they use the remotes. Of course, they're very careful with them due to numerous death threats.

That's the way to do it! :clap2:

The Sony PLAYSTATION®3 is not directly compatible with your Harmony Remote. The Logitech Harmony Adapter for PS3™ (sold separately) will allow you to control your PS3™ with your Harmony Remote, including turning it on and off.

$150 and it isn't compatible! :yousuck:

Stupid adapter is another $60!
