Replace Free with Cleary

I know he hasn't played that many snaps when he's filled in for Tyron Smith, but I have watched Emmett Cleary closely every time he's in there, and I've been very impressed. I believe he would be a definite upgrade to Doug Free at RT once the playoffs begin & Smith returns. Free was owned by Brandon Graham, & Vinny Curry all day today, while Cleary held his own in both the run & pass. Graham wasn't assigned any sacks, but he made the QB's life miserable in the second half. Only once did I see anyone get past Cleary, & that was on a DE/DT stunt where he & Looney didn't pass off each others' man cleanly. Practicing with the Ones will help Cleary with those situations, & give us a 6-7, 325 lb. RT who can actually move his feet. I know Sanchez played poorly today, but Free certainly didn't do him any favors. Free has actually gotten worse as the season has gone along, & will be much more of a detriment to our chances of winning it all than Cleary ever could.

Well said, Cleary is already better than Free and with some work could be a good RT.

Sanchez has an uncanny ability to step right into the pressure.

and was just waiting for receivers to show open,......vrs anticipation of routes cuts and / or throwing them open.

Case in point was a small open window to Dunbar who snuck thru the line in the middle of the feild, Sanchez looked right at it but didnt throw him open or anticipate the cut, the LB then undercut it and Sanchez took a sack.... Dunbar had alot of room, and one could tell he was miffed the ball didnt come his way......

We went 13-2 with the best run game in the NFL, and were top 10 in the league allowing less than 2 sacks per game (and at least a handful were on Dak) and all of a sudden it's gloom and doom with Free? We can't possibly go on with him? Absolutely ridiculous, people just need something to ***** about apparently.

Don't look at the line's numbers, look at Free's own numbers. They're bad. What's "absolutely ridiculous" is people trying to blind themselves and others to his poor play.

the TE was still helping the RT on a high percentage of passing downs, the problem is when Witten went out Escobar become the TE helping, and he remains worthless blocking

Yeah, that was a factor too, but it doesn't excuse Free's awful play. He was terrible in both the run and passing game.

A number of players didn't do well yesterday. It's almost as if we had nothing to play for, sat several starters, and weren't overly concerned with the final score.

Did a number of starters 'not do well' yesterday? Or was that Doug Free specifically? Were the rest of them guys we won't be starting? I think we all know the answer, but 'A' for effort in the attempted diversion.

We're not replacing Free with Cleary. Free is very good run blocker. His pass pro is underrated here, but he does have games where he doesn't show up in pass pro. The bigger thing is we need to figure out his replacement for next year because it's better to get rid of a guy too soon than too late.

YR

I do feel better about cleary after watching him in action.
With that said, I highly doubt Garrett sits free heading into the playoffs.
A competent replacement for next yr would be high on my list of wants and needs however
