Replacement Referees?

I would think that replacement referees would be younger. That would be a huge upgrade imo.

Compared to baseball and basketball, NFL refs are pretty darn good.

Basketball yes, but baseball umpires are damn good. They make by far the fewest errors, it's just that baseball calls are usually very black/white on replay so when they do screw up everyone knows it.

Replacement officials would simply come from the College ranks.

There is absolutely NO way the NFL would grab any officials from any level lower than that. Also, because of how long it takes to even become one of the best at any given level, the officials would still be slightly "older" than what people expect officials to be.

As for the whole full-time officials thing, I stand by what I've always stated. There is no way you can justify the need for officials in the offseason beyond what they already do.

Per FoxSports, the NFL is scouting replacement refs in case they can't reach agreement with the regular refs on a labor deal.

The ones we have now are bad enough, we don't need a downgrade.

Scabs suck

Armando Gallaraga might disagree with you.

Did I say they never make mistakes? No, in fact I specifically said they did.

The majority of penalties in the NFL are subjective and the NBA has sent an official to jail for shaving points on games he was officiating. This isnt even up for debate.

you aren't taking into account the different strike zones and how umps can screw those up big time

I remember watching a game earlier this year and the announcers stated last year was the best year umpires had in the history of MLB when judging the strike zone.

You know what, I'd like to see replacements. What if they came in and were good?

If they were bad, at least the league would really look toward getting a labor deal done with the Officials.

We get raped almost every freaking week in the NFL as is, how can replacement refs be any worse?

Seriously, the replacement refs might actually think Ware getting tackled in the backfield is a penalty or Romo being power driven into the turf might be roughing.

Just saying
