In spite of his carefully considered retirement in April, former Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe has received numerous invitations to return to the NFL for a 15th season.

Bledsoe most recently declined a feeler from the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, cementing his resolve to remain retired.

"I really felt, late in the season last year, that was it. It was time and I was done," he told The Boston Globe. "I kind of stepped away from it because I really wanted to make sure it was the right decision. Was I really ready to step away from something that was so important to me? I talked to people and in the end my feelings didn't change. I felt it was time to move on to the next phase."

Upon retirement, Bledsoe told his agent, David Dunn, he didn't want to know if teams were calling to express interest in him, but the paper reports Dunn felt compelled to inform the 35-year-old signal caller of recent interest in his services.

"He said he felt he owed it to me to make sure I was still feeling the same way, that I was in the same place I was before," Bledsoe told the Globe. "I told him that I was really sure. It feels good to know."

Recent weeks have seen Carolina, Arizona, San Francisco, and Jacksonville lose starting quarterbacks, piquing interest in able-bodied quarterbacks with NFL experience, but Bledsoe indicated that he remains firmly behind his decision to stay at home, the paper reports.

"I thought about it long and hard before I made the decision to retire," he told the Globe. "That's why I took two to three months; to be sure it was what I wanted to do. I felt like I had reached the point in my life where it was the right decision, a final decision.

"I feel good about it. I do miss the game and I knew I would miss the game. But I'm at a spot in my life where I'm staying busy and I'm completely 100 percent healthy, and I'd like it to stay that way. And to give what you have to give to play this game -- that 100 percent level -- I'm not at that point."

If I escaped after that many seasons with 100% health and all the money he's acquired, I would stay retired too. I mean, why would you wanna sign for league minimum to be the target of very angry and huge blitzing linemen and linebackers for a team that won't win a Super Bowl?

Smart guy. If only he didn't suck for us...

he gave us a pretty good year in 2005. If the Hotel does not get injured we probably make the playoffs.

Bledsoe is well grounded -

He walked away from another 5 years in the NFL, Healthy having earned $150M+ in contract and on his terms.

15 years starting in the NFL takes a toll on a body and he took more shots than most. Yet other than once got up and played. I will remember Drew Bledsaoe's toughness and big arm as his two biggest attributes.

He has also started a company selling wine.

Thank goodness.

Now can he call Vinny and keep him off my TV?

No Vinny is determined to break the all time career interception record.

Uhhh, to earn $150+ million over fiteen years would mean an average of $10 million per year.

I'm sure he's very well taken care of, but those earnings are not accurate.

I'd definitely like to see some proof of this. Over the last 6 years of his career, I know he signed a 10 year $103 million contract in like 2001 with New England, but he left shortly after that. He was due to make around $12 million in Buffalo, but re-structured the contract and then left to come to Dallas where he made no where near $10 million a year for the 2 years he was with us. This basically means that he made OVER $10 million a year with New England from 1993 to 2002. I don't think that's correct. I'm sure he's made a lot in endorsements and such, but pure salary from his contracts don't seem to add up to $150 million.

I'm not saying ur wrong, but I do wanna see the numbers just to learn about it more.

After signing a 10-year, $103 million contract last summer that's the richest in NFL history, Bledsoe was injured in Week 2 and out for seven games. Bledsoe was sidelined after taking a hit from linebacker Mo Lewis in the fourth quarter of a 10-3 loss to the New York Jets.

Tom Brady took over and led New England from 0-2 to an 11-5 regular-season record, winning the starting job in the process.

In a twist of fate, Bledsoe replaced an injured Brady in the AFC Championship Game and led the Patriots to a 24-17 upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The question for Super Bowl week became, "Brady or Bledsoe?" But once head coach Bill Belichick determined that Brady was healthy, the job was his.

As he did all season, Bledsoe took the decision with grace, continuing to support Brady as a friend and mentor; when Brady took a nap on the locker room floor before the game, Bledsoe was right beside him. The two also attended a World Series game together in the fall.

"He sets the example for me, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Drew. He's a huge reason why we are where we are right now," Brady said after he was named Super Bowl MVP for leading New England to the Rams' 30 in the final minutes to set up Adam Vinatieri's game-winning field goal.

He saw most of that and had a #1 overall contract in 1993 and made at least $10M in Dallas his last 2 years.

Bledsoe made major coin in his career.

Who cares how much money he made? I hope he made 300 million with investments.

Let him stay retired if that's what he wants.

Agree - with endorsements he probably made $200M plus, and retired at age 35. He has done well in his career and is healthy and starting a new phase in his life. I tip my hat, it would have been easy to answer the phone and he'd be playing today as a starter.
