Season tickets delayed by potential game
Associated Press
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Cardinals reportedly will play the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 2 in Mexico City in the NFL's first regular-season game outside the United States.
The Arizona Republic reported Tuesday that an announcement on the game is expected within two weeks.
The newspaper also said that the possibility of playing an international game has forced the Cardinals to delay mailing invoices to season-ticket holders.
Michael Bidwill, Cardinals vice president and general counsel, declined to discuss specifics but said that playing such a game is "very unique and appealing prospect."
"It would be a historic and unprecedented event," said Bidwill, whose father owns the Cardinals.
Officials from the NFL declined comment, but Commissioner Paul Tagliabue raised the possibility of just such an event last month at his annual pre-Super Bowl news conference, saying Mexico City was a logical location.
