I know the media loves to click-bait readers by creating faux outrage, but it could very well be as simple as Jerry is just waiting to see what Dan Quinn is going to do.

Since those coach's contracts have expired and Quinn is going on multiple "second interviews", it would be stupid to go ahead and sign those coaches to new contracts.

Of course if Jerry did resign those coaches and then Quinn leaves, those same media orgs and fans complaining now would likely complain about Jerry forcing "his coaches" on the new defensive coordinator.

I would not be surprised to hear that those coaches or their agents are the ones spreading the, "we had no idea" stories when in reality Jerry is waiting on Quinn's decision, or he already knows it.

the only thing that makes sense is that they believe Quinn is gone for a HC job elsewhere, and are preparing for the new DC to come in and pick his staff
the new DC could come from within. Joe Whitt Jr. is here and so is Scott McCurley. They have been with McCarthy for awhile.

McCarthy is holding a press conference at 3 today.

Which sucks.

I would have slow played it then and just let them hang until that decision was made.

This just does more harm than good.
I think Quinn has been offered a job and the Cowboys know it...if I had to guess Quinn will be heading to AZ, and Payton to Denver

I have always thought the way a boss fires people, which is sometimes necessary, is a good measurement of the boss's character. The way Jones fired Landry, for example, showed that Jones was a bit of a "hot dog". This latest round of firings sounds similar. No one likes getting fired, even if they deserve it. But in the end they are still people, with families, so when firing someone always be respectful. I have no idea why Jerry thinks these coaches have to go, but regardless, allow them some dignity in the process. Give them a reason they are being fired. Make sure their other bosses are involved in the decision to the extent that is possible.

I have no idea why Edwards was let go. I think Micah had a good season and LVE really came around in the second half. Barr underperformed but I think that had more to do with Barr than his coaches. Damone Clark looked pretty good but without an offseason to prepare I would have expected he would look lost and confused at times. But I am sure Jerry or MM has his reasons.

Based on what is going on now, I think it is a sign this offseason will be as tumultuous as last offseason.

I was surprised That they didn’t hire Campen in the first place. He - not Philbin - was McCarthy’s longtime O-line coach.

These are hardly all the details I'm guessing.

This is a process and expiring contracts coupled with both coordinators interviewing makes sense.

The other part of this is Booger thinks coaching is overrated and has for years.

I dont know the ins and outs of assistant coaches contracts and how they are handled, but I’m also a little confused as to why these are shocking decisions being made.

If you have an OC and DC in advanced interview stages with other teams wouldn’t you wait until you know how those situations play out before giving coaches new deals? What if DQ leaves and the guy they replace him with wants to bring him his own staff?

Maybe I’m missing something here but it sounds like a smart decision by the cowboys?

If this team is serious about winning with Dak Prescott and I do mean serious - they stop *****footing around in free agency and trades and instead churn the roster to improve it. They need to add another stud WR - preferably in the draft (no OBJ isn't the answer here). Go out and get a servicable change of pace back in free agency to backup Pollard and still has some functioning legs that can hit a decent amount of speed. Continue to improve offensive and defensive line. Dak isn't going anywhere so best reconcile with that - that being said the rest of these guys on offense shouldn't get comfortable.

My only thoughts are that the coaches who were told they weren’t coming back were guys whose contracts ran out. The Jones boys definitely run a circus around here, but in this case, why would you resign assistants to new contracts when the coordinators may be leaving? We always complained about Jerry keeping coaches that new head coaches or coordinators had to accept.

We may be getting a new DC, maybe a new OC, even an outside shot at a new head coach if he decides we might as well start from scratch if they leave. Maybe this is just managing contracts and letting the new guys bring in their own guys.

Side note, I know we’ve been one of the top offenses during the regular season, but I’d love to see a new OC who actually understands the run game better than Moore, or a guy who brings in a run game coordinator. I also want to see a more modern pass game. Too often I feel our receivers don’t put enough effort in because they know their routes are designed to make someone else open instead of all routes designed to put pressure on the defense together with a clear progression. When everyone runs the same curls, where’s the progression? When everyone runs deep, where’s the progression off other routes?
Yup.
These guys were out of contract and Dallas doesn't have coordinators.
Why would you extend guys before you hire their bosses?

I'd say many of these guys will be candidates to come back pending result of on-going interviews.

If these guys aren't going to be considered for the promotion to coordinator it makes sense to let the contracts expire.

It also makes sense in some cases to refresh the message and get other coaches in to teach as well. OL Coach a big example here.

The "500 coaches could have won that Super Bowl with that team” lives inperpetuity.
