When former NFL defensive tackle Warren Sapp recently declared bankruptcy, he listed his income at $45,000 per month from NFL Network on a contract that expires in August 2012. Sapp said in the paperwork he’s not sure if the contract will be extended.

According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe, it probably won’t be.

Bedard reports, citing two league sources, that Sapp’s employment is “likely over,” and that Sapp has not been on NFL Network in the two-plus weeks since he went on the air and outed former Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey as the player who blew the whistle on the Saints’ bounty system in 2011.

NFLN Senior Vice President of Programming and Production Mark Quenzel previously said Sapp wouldn’t be “fired,” but if Bedard’s report is accurate that was just a matter of semantics. Like when the Steelers didn’t “fire” offensive coordinator Bruce Arians after his contract expired. Even though they didn’t offer him ongoing employment. (Maybe NFLN will claim Sapp “retired,” too.)

I hate to see anyone lose their job and wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy but I really dislike Sapp. Dude annoys me with all his stupid facial expressions and ridiculous comments.

You and me, both. But if I had to make an exception to my not wishing anyone lose their job, in general, it'd be for Sapp.

i'll never forget the cheap and dirty shot he took against the Green Bay OL that put him out for the season. Then he went public repeatedly trying to defend it saying it was clean and normal even though the guy wasn't looking and the ball was 45 yards away.

I'm capable of accepting a dissenting opinion without being so childish to hope someone loses their job.

What exactly is so terrible about outing Shockey as the snitch? If that's true, he should report it. He's not a player anymore.

Probably using the word "snitch." Not to mention he works for the NFL network which is supposed to side with Roger Goodell who is the commissioner of the NFL. Basically, he is condemning the whistleblower who brought this whole ordeal to light. I think that might have something to do with it.

Cant think of anyone less deserving of making that kind of money.

He's an idiot and no sympathy for him.

BTW, they have some other clowns on the NFLN that should follow him out the door!

If that happens, I will start watching that network on a regular basis again.

So you guys want a man fired for talking bad about the Cowboys? Unbelievable.

We want him fired because he is a pathetic joke there; as well as being a DB

That's pretty much it, yeah. You'll get excuses but that's the real cause of the backlash.

Not JUST because Sapp talked bad about the Cowboys ... ... and he most certainly did a whole lot of that. In addition, there were/are puh-lenty of reasons to dislike the guy and be okay with the fact he may well be getting his comeuppance. No tears being shed here.

NFLN without Sapp would be a better network. Last year Woodson left so this is two years in a row a former player turned mouthpiece who needed to go has departed. At least we are trending in the right direction.

For the record, I don't give a **** what anyone says about the Cowboys on any TV station. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I only want Sapp gone for the comment he made about Shockey. If it was Shockey, calling him a snitch and outing him like that wasn't cool. I'm sure it takes a lot of courage to step up and admit something like that. What makes it worse is after the tape of Greg Williams came out Sapp released a statement saying how "egregious" it was. As if he actually wrote it himself. I can guarantee he doesn't even know what that word means. But, getting back to my point, you can't throw a "snitch" under the bus, and then condemn the people he threw under the bus. It just goes to show what a ****ing moron he is. Why would I want to listen to someone as stupid as him?

Why does the NFLN think anyone wants to listen to somebody as stupid as him?
