Virginia Tech will suspend quarterback Marcus Vick for an undetermined number of games next season if he returns to school, The Hampton Roads (Va.) Daily Press reported Friday.

The newspaper, according to two sources within the athletic department who wished to remain anonymous, said the suspension is the result of Vick stomping on a Louisville player's leg in the first half of Monday's Gator Bowl.

However, the suspension could actually be for Vick getting arrested in December.

The Washington Post reported Friday that Vick was arrested Dec. 17 in Hampton, Va., and charged with misdemeanor driving on a suspended or revoked driver's license, according to the Virginia Judicial Systems Web site.

The Post said the charge was not reported on the state's Web site until yesterday.

The Daily Press said Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer on Friday will meet with Brenda Boddie, Vick's mother, and Vick to discuss the player's options. If Vick doesn't accept the suspension, he will either have to transfer to another school or turn pro, the report said.

Vick said at a press conference Dec. 29 he doesn't plan to enter the NFL Draft in April.

However, to gain immediate eligibility next season by transferring, Vick would have to go to a Division I-AA or lower level school.

According to Virginia Tech sources, The Post said Vick would be suspended for at least the Hokies' 2006 opener if he returns to the team.

Cpl. James West, public information officer for the Hampton Police Department, said Vick was cited Dec. 17 for two violations -- speeding and driving on a suspended driver's license, according to The Post. West said Vick wasn't taken into custody and was issued two summons to appear in Hampton General District Court on Jan. 17.

The Post said when the school announced Vick's semester-long suspension last year, Virginia Tech President Charles M. Steger said if Vick faced additional off-field troubles, "his Virginia Tech career is effectively ended."

Virginia Tech has called an 11 a.m. news conference Saturday to address the incident at the Gator Bowl involving Vick. The school said University President Charles Steger, Director of Athletics Jim Weaver and Beamer will take part in the news conference.

Earlier this week, Weaver said he was embarrassed by quarterback Vick's "unacceptable" actions and promised to further review the situation.

Vick, 21, led the Hokies to an 11-2 season, which ended with a 35-24 win over Louisville in Jacksonville, Fla.

Vick completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 2,393 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season.

During a game at West Virginia on Oct. 1, Vick flipped his middle finger to fans behind Tech's sideline.

He apologized in a statement the next day. "What I did was wrong and I am sorry," he said. "My goal is to be the leader of this team and do things the right way."
