I made a resign Spears thread a few days ago.

I just watched Spears vid on dallascowboys.com

Resign this man. He is blue collar and gets his job done. (baring being way over priced) This man has the perfect mind set. Do your job or get your *** kicked. You are paid, do your ******* job is his mind set.

This man is what you want on your team.

Yup, no kidding. I still laugh at all the people that said trade him/cut him.

Anytime I see this brought up, I ALWAYS voice my support. Spears is a great run stopper and space eater, precisely what his role is called for in a 3-4. Many fans think he is replaceable because he doesn't get sacks, but that is not his primary job in this defensive scheme. Spears and Olshansky are both very talented and reliable players for us. We should make sure they both remain Cowboys for many years to come.

The only thing I don't like about Spears, is that he gets virtually no pass rush. Yeah, everyone says that his role is just to stop the run, and he is good at it. But when we're in the base defense, and rush only 4, that means we have only 2 pass guys who can get to the QB - Rat, and whoever doesn't drop back into coverage. Rat gets doubled, Ware gets chipped, and neither of the DE's gets any kind of push. Not a big deal if the other team runs on first down, but if they pass, a lot of times the QB has all day.

I just can't buy into the idea that you only need your DE's in a 3-4 to do only one thing. Look at Pittsburgh. Brett Kiesel and Aaron Smith are really good at both. NE, Balt, NYJ all have DE's that can get to the QB as well as stop the run.

As much as I like Spears, the base defense will always suffer against the pass when he's in there. And this is not an argument as to why Jason Hatcher should be starting. As far as I'm concerned, they can cut him, and start playing Lissemore. The guy's been in the league as long as Carpenter, and hasn't really given much more.

Spears pushes the pocket dude... He's doing his job.

Before I comment further on this post, I want to make sure I'm understanding what you're saying. Are you implying that Spears hasn't done much more than Carpenter, or that Lissemore hasn't done much more than Carpenter?

I think he was talking about Hatcher.

After watching DC.com I see I have taken him as a person and player for granted sign him Jerry sign Bowen cut dont resign Hatcher draft 2 D line men

Look at our 3-4 vs others.

We're the only one in which the ends outweigh the nose tackle.

No, he doesn't. He holds his ground, but he doesn't push the pocket. Not on any kind consistent basis at least.

I've never understood not extending Spears with a decent contract. You can't take his kind of consistency for granted, and it's not like there's some youngster outplaying him (though Bowen is very effective as a pass rusher).
