I looked this up for another thread, but thought I'd put it here.

The Cowboys will not break the record for return TDs this year, but what they're doing is pretty remarkable.

They have:
5 interception return TDs
1 fumble return TD
1 kickoff return TD
2 blocked punt return TDs

for a total of 9. That puts them in a many-way tie for 18th all time. One more puts them in the top 10 (albeit with several other teams, so it would really be a top 18). Two more would put them in a tie for 3rd with 7 other teams.

The 1998 Seahawks had 13 total return TDs, including 8(!) interception returns. That team had 24 total interceptions, and returned one of every three to the house!
The 2010 Cardinals had 12 total return TDs, including 7(!) fumble return TDs. That fumble return number is nuts: they only forced 13 fumbles all season, and I'm not sure how many of those they actually recovered.

Side note: only 2 teams in history have had more than our 2 blocked punt return TDs.
The 1943 Giants had 4 (there's a record that might never be broken).
The 2014 Eagles had 3.
The 1942 Washington team, the 1979 Rams and the 1987 Saints only had 2 but they added a blocked FG return TD for good measure.

No idea if anyone else finds this stuff interesting, but I do.

Well return TDs are good for the show and have a chance to demoralize the opponent.

But for me the way more important stat would be, on how many turnovers did we score TDs? So what was the work of the Defense worth in the end and how does that percentage holds up against the rest of the league?

on how many turnovers did we score TDs? 8 lol if you count the blocked punts as t/o
look up how many int and fumbles and use that to get %.

It is way better than any cowboy team the past decade or so.
now it remains to be seen if they can do it against good playoff teams.

I think he’s asking how many points off turnovers we had, meaning not only how many return TDs but also how many times did the offense turn those takeaways into points. I don’t know, but also don’t think it’s a great measure. If you intercept a pass deep in your own territory, you may not go 90+ yards to score, but you kept them from scoring and you may flip the field on them, which is just as valuable in the end.

Yeah, that's what I meant, sorry for my bad English. Thanks for clarifying.
