SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was arrested for possession of marijuana in Alabama on Friday, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office database.

Foster was released Friday night on $2,500 bond.

A second-degree marijuana possession charge is considered a Class A misdemeanor in Alabama.

The 49ers released the following statement Friday night: "The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Reuben Foster and we are currently gathering all relevant facts."

The arrest comes almost two weeks after Foster wrapped up a rookie season in which he finished second on the 49ers in tackles with 72 in 10 games.

The reward was worth the risk with Foster because he has elite talent. He messed up big time but his career isn't over.

I know that is why I was shaking my head when I saw it.

Yup, though I do disagree with pot being banned. Should there be limits like on alcohol? Sure, but that debate's for another time. As for Foster, nobody accused him of being smart lol.

IMHO, marijuana should be available to all NFL players in prescription form and they should not be punished for legally possessing small amounts or be subjected to testing for the drug by the league.

By allowing players to medicate with forms of cannibus, the league may be doing them a favor in the long run by keeping them away from prescription opiates. Pain management is a big part of playing in the NFL and the "prescribed" pills have a history of dragging players down.

Exactly, and there are medical benefits to pot.

which explains why he dropped...and we passed.
obviously he didnt learn ANYTHING from last year.

what was it Belichick said to an asst....."If I start to draft a dumb player...shoot me".

Funny, many many Cowboys fans were mad when we took Taco over him. Not such a bad idea anymore, now is It? ;)

Man you are right. I admit I was one of those diluted fans lol. Of course, I can only see what they do on the field not in their own time. It is sad these guys can't figure it out.

At least the Cowboys wait until pick 60 to draft Gregory.

The 49ers burned a 1st rounder on this guy.

I remember the rueage around here when the Cowboys didn't take him.
