Mark my words now, Luepke is going to have a roster spot and a role this season.
I'm not saying it can't happen but until he starts making noise in training camp, I'm going to stay neutral. Lot to ask of a small program kid to come in & earn a roster spot and a role as a rookie. Much less at a position that isn't used much nowadays. Just making the practice squad would be a huge first step.

Davis is battling Jones to be the #2. My money is on Davis.

Leupke will be battling with the back end of the roster.
They are all battling each other.

Pollard had a broken leg and will be ready for TC. He is the clear RB1.
Vaughn was drafted by the club and at the very least is in competition for RB2.
Davis, Dowdle, Leupke, and Jones are the UDFA/retread back of the roster.

The issue with him will be can his body take the role.
He was at times dominant in college, but he missed 5 games his final two season playing at non FBS level
Thats a bit like Carson Wentz and we know Wentz body just didn't stand up to NFL demands.

Team can definitely use his size and overall skillset if he can survive the day versus NFL defenses.

Has had issues with both shoulders and that is tough for a guy playing FB/HB.

But he does absolutely have a path on this team and should be plenty hungry.

RB2 could very well be on another team or the street today.
Any vet could learn the scheme in a few days well enough to take on a back up role.
RB is one of the positions you'd most be OK not knowing the depth chart at this point.

Davis averaged over 4YPC & 10.5 receiving. Has a year's experience under his belt & outweighs Vaughn by 25-30 lbs. Being able to stay on the field in protection alone is going to make it difficult for Vaughn to be considered for a primary role.

Maybe rb2 when TP is healthy. If TP isn't I don't believe Vaughn would become the primary ball carrier.

I think more than anything he's drafted to fill the role of playmaker.

On paper he's the perfect complement to Pollard in the run game, together and separately.

He'll probably be one of the top Pet Cats of camp. Deuce will be sure to be very popular. Bostick will be mine if they turn him into a blocking TE.

He was more RB than FB in college..

Bostick at TE???

Luepke may take the roster spot of McKeon instead of Malik Davis.

Injuries to any of a handful of players could influence that.

But really, MM has to have a very specific role in mind for him, and if they had that, would they have left it to chance and not drafted him?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see a new wrinkle and get an HBack type involved, but I’m not positive it’s going to happen.

Its conservative but a respected opinion.

Just looking at the current depth my opinion on the young FB is higher than yours.

If we do something insane like trade for D Henry than the entire dynamic changes instantly, and so does my opinion.

Would love to see Ronald Jones light it up and prove the entire NFL wrong and earn a roster spot, but IMHO Jones is here for camp fodder role only.

Current depth at RB/FB

Pollard
M. Davis
Deuce
R.Jones
Dowdle
Luepke - highest rated FB in the draft

Luepke brings things none of the other backs do.
Luepke brings things none of the TEs do.
It's not about who's the best player, it's about which players make up the best personnel package for a given situation.

Sure is getting hyped up.

Pretty sure someone will compare him to Alstott in an OP at some point.

Needs to be good on STs and have a defined role on offense to make it.
He’s definitely not Alstott. I saw some highlights of him recently and forgot how good that dude was. Had Emmitt type feet.

I think he spends the year stashed on IR.

Word is he had shoulder surgery which caused him to fall in the draft.

Could be a deep stash

Another great video I might have missed but thanks to the Forum I see it. Thanks for sharing.

I whined a lot during the draft about RB. I wasn’t sure what they were doing. Vaughn and this guy are perfect compliments. I think they can even keep this guy as an H back to squeeze another tweener on the roster. I love the idea of pounding tired defenses with this guy in the 4th Q. Very nice signing and a chance for a real impact UDFA here.

Hunter Luepke, Isaiah Land, Princeton Fant, Durrell Johnson My Pet Cats 2023

By that I mean long shots but I'm REALLY hoping something shakes out.

EDIT: I think Hunter, unless he just self Destructs, Has Pretty Good odds
