Revisiting Micah Parsons

Ask yourself how do you think Jaylon would have played this?

  1. He would have absolutely froze with the sweep action; or
  2. He would have bit hard on the fake and went into the stands had the guy ran there; or
  3. He would have absolutely been stood up at the line of scrimmage

Last bit on Parsons.

I keep seeing the comparison of Jaylon to Parsons, but it's absolutely apples-to-oranges.

Parson has just played two years at linebacker. He was a running back and defensive end in high school. He's still learning the position and his ceiling is still incredibly high as he continues to develop and learn the nuances of the position.

Jaylon is who he is.

Jaylon has played linebacker his whole life; he was a linebacker in high school (won the Butkus award for best high school linebacker); he played linebacker all three years at Notre Dame; and now he's entering his fifth NFL season (of actually playing). He's not suddenly going to evolve as a linebacker and start taking on blocks, making the correct reads, stop biting hard on play-action/motion, suddenly start giving consistent/maximum effort in pursuit, et cetera.

Again, Parsons may be an immature nut job and for that reason be taken off some teams boards. I can't account for that because I don't know the verifiable truth behind some of the allegations. However, just in terms of a football prospect, he'll likely be one of the top defensive prospects possibly available at pick #10 at a position I feel is a real need.

Yea I don’t get the comparisons. They essentially stop at being similar athletes before Jaylon got hurt.

Key difference is instincts...they are a strength in Parsons scouting report and they were a weakness in Jaylons.

perfect post. If he’s there at 10 it’s a miracle. Because him not playing this and him still being considered as top defensive prospect is saying something.

My guess is he's probably going to be there at 10. The question will be are either of the CBs still there?

Agreed. I do think one of them are there but free agency will determine if we go corner high again

Agreed. As I have said before, it really sucks having this pick and no stud DT(s) in this draft that we could take at that spot.

My order of preference (and I am not happy about it):

1) Trade from 10
2) One of the CBs
3) Parsons

IMO Parsons is the best defensive player in the draft. The only issue for me is whether the off the field stuff warrants taking him off your draft board. He’s an All-Pro talent absolutely worth serious consideration if the off the field stuff is deemed acceptable.

Smith would also be better if he could actually move laterally.

Parsons is the best LB to come out since Mack back in 2014 IMO.

Here’s my concern. Two of his “cons” if you read some of his draft guides are two things that frustrate the hell out of people with Smith (and at times LVE).

Questions about his instincts and he’s not great at taking on blockers and shedding them.

But the flip side is there aren’t a ton of options at 10 if the CBs are gone. So he still might be the best player available.
Theres no way 1 of farley or surtain arent at 10. Henderson was much safer than farley and he barely went top 10. And Okufah flopping probably gives teams cause to pause on non sure fire cbs anyway.

What off the field stuff? How serious are we talking here?

I think we can't turn our noses up at any top defensive prospect. This draft doesn't have many and is unquestionably one of them.

Happy for me to not have turned my nose up at this lol.
