Revisiting Tyler Smith G/T Tulsa

Minor trade is also an option, but I don't think we will be talking after day 2 that they haven't filled the need.
Broaddus knows something. He keeps bringing up Sam Williams on the shows.

He could very well be in the discussion at 56, depending who is there. At that point, the team may have very few 2nd rd grades still on their board if any.

Can't believe I'm saying it but I've completely given up on McGovern. Unless it's purely a LG/RG thing with him, the regression isn't explainable.

I just completed a review McGovern in 3 or his 4 starts at LG.
- In my opinion, with an upgrade at OC, McGovern at LG would be 'good enough'.
- A rookie 1st round pick at LG with Biadasz at OC is going to remain a problem.
- That problem will get bigger when Tyron missed games.
- I would focus on OC and LT in the draft, not OG.
- If they draft a future LT, it would be optimal if that player could start at LG as a rookie.
- Tyler Smith at OG as a rookie then moves to LT when Tyron retires.
- Zion Johnson appears to be an option at OC as well as OG. I think ultimately OC might be his best position.

That is the smart move.

Trade down and accumulate multiple picks between rounds 2-4.

It might be difficult to find a trade down partner.

Ideally, they would stay in the 1st round after the trade down.
- The 5th year option has value.

Well I was hoping that an upgrade of one made the other acceptable.

Farinok may in fact be better than either, but probably not to the point where it would matter.

A rookie 1st rounder....say Zion Johnson....may or may not be that guy eventually, but right away?

It appears to be one of those problems that they let linger for multiple seasons before realizing.

Do you not like Zion as an eventual tackle? I was kinda hoping this rookie they clearly want to draft and start at LG can eventually play LT.

Am I wrong to assume that Zion is a guard that can be a center before a tackle, and Smith is more of a tackle that will kick inside initially?

They both seem to be rated below 24 but ahead of 58.

I like him and his potential but if the Titans want him at 26? They can have him. He has to be torn down and I'm not using a 1st round pick on a project.

Agreed. One year too late. We need some guys ready to start now. Cheapskate Jones Boys fault. No FA attempts so we have to be choosy now.

If they can trade down 2× and still remain in 1st round - that would be perfect.

I have no idea why they’re refusing to sign any experienced veteran free agent linemen. It makes no sense.

Give that a watch if you’re interested. It sounds like Turner is really beat up and his movement skills are shot at this point.

Broaddus is opposite man. Whatever he says, the opposite is normally the truth.

Broaddus said durability is an issue; however, Turner has played in a started 26 of the most recent 26 games.
- He only missed more than 3 games once in his career.
- I reviewed his playoff game from the 2021 season he he appeared to be moving fine.

Obviously he has declined from his peak; otherwise, he would have been signed already.
- However, he is a 28 year old 5x Pro Bowl player, that started 26 of the past 26 possible games and played 100% of the snaps in his last game (Jan 2022).

It's much more likely that Turner just wants more than teams have offered and he is OK to just wait.

Absolute monster.

In passing and ground game, beyond nasty.

His top issue was that a majority of his penalties came from his need to pummel and pancake defenders.
- An NFL coaching staff needs to resolve that issue without taking away the 'good aggression'.

Garrett would have forced him to become passive or ride the bench.
- I think McCarty & Philbin can turn him into a very good NFL player; although, I would prefer to have Bill Callahan as the Cowboys OL coach again.

The local sports talk radio guys have said a few times that they think the Cowboys have already agreed to terms with some free agents but don't want to sign them until after the date where they don't count against the comp pick formula.

In general I could believe those reports; however, that would mean that they've planning to pay them enough to actually count in the comp pick formula.

I’ll feel that’s wishful thinking until someone is signed.

Bill Callahan was Cowboys best OL coach since Tony Wise.

Miss that guy.

Agreed. Tyler Smith takes nasty to new heights.

Not necessarily dirty, just over aggressive.

Playing Zion at Center and drafting a legitimate Guard would be go a long way of fixing this OL.

I don't love the idea of taking a guy who is so raw.

But man, does he ever remind me of Larry Allen. He just crushes people.

If he is all there mentally, and can learn technique, I don't know, I think might be ok with him now.

He almost had the same LA chasing down a defensive player after an INT highlight play.

He was moving very fast down the field at a similar angle as the defender was going down the sideline.
- Smith hesitated just enough before stepping on the gas to prevent him from getting there before the defender got to the Endzone.
- It was impressive nonetheless.
