Rewatching the game

If I re-watch the game, will they opt not to throw away their TD opportunity with 1st and goal on the 5? That was just sickening play calling right there.

Depends on which play you are talking about. The two egregious plays I saw were by M. Bennett at the end of the half, and F. Cox in OT. C. Williams looks okay in the other plays, had help a lot.

Do you expect a rookie OL, who played OT in college, to play like Larry Allen?
Connor Williams can play all 5 OL positions. He has started as a guard in his rookie season. He has looked good for many plays and bad for a few. Overall, I'd say that is pretty good for a 2nd round draft pick.

Bad playcalls on 1st and 2nd down created a long 3rd down— which resulted in playing into the teeth of the Philly defense.

Running the ball when you have a lead in the second half is Football 101. Apparently not for Linehan though. Was it a bad throw? Yep. Do all QBs throw INTs? Yep. Do they throw more picks when under pressure and in long down and distances that favor the defense? Yep.

That series was set up to fail the moment Linehan tipped his hand and showed shotgun on 1st down. Should have run the ball or called play-action from a run look.

Into the teeth of that wide open WR....There was no pressure either!

Only reason it failed was because of a bad pass!

I think the Cowboys gave everything yesterday. They looked gassed at the end.

Byron Jones got lazy on one play and it cost us. That won’t happen much.

Dak has to start hitting a few of these wide open recievers. He is missing a few of these every game. These are TDs. And he needs to quit these fumbles. Lol. But Linehan could help him out. Some of these playcalls make me scratch my head. Getting to the goal line and not even running it one time. That’s getting unacceptable. Use some misdirection. Roll him out some. These are all things they have done and had success.

So, was it Fletcher Cox who bull rushed Williams? Or was it some ordinary stiff?
Does it matter? You're an NFL pro, a top pick. But I get it, he's a rookie and definitely needs to bulk up. I'm glad you made the point about Cox, sometimes the other team gets paid to make plays too, for all the Dak bashers out there.

Seemed like we had a lot more plays designed to have Dak get rid of the ball quickly and he did a much better job of it than usual. It was simply the turnovers that kept this from blowout city.

Another nice scheme change was more passes to the TEs. Jarwin and Schulz both stepped up and made nice catch and runs.

Zeke didn't have any breakaways and he does look a little worn, but boy can he get the tough yards. That 4th and 1 OT was all Zeke making that yard happen and saving the game.

LVE got introduced to Sproles and was made to look silly a couple times. He will be great but it shows he still has a rookies curve to learn and grow. A little humble pie is good for the diet. Plus those who say we dont need Lee back are crazy. We need all hands on deck and whatever Lee can give makes the defense all that much better.

There's a real attitude and chemistry on this team, most notably on the defense. Stopping the Eagles cheesy TD celebration made me proud. The D has swagger and tenacity, they all buy into it and take turns stepping up. The way they all swarm to the ball reminds me of the early 90s defense.

Covering TEs still seems to be our biggest weakness. Hopefully progress can be made before playoffs.
Sproles can make pretty much anyone look pedestrian.

My one big gripe was Philthy's 4th & 3 from the Dallas 48 where Sproles converted on a reception aided by a pick play.................I'm not upset at the officiating , I'm wondering why LVE was in the game on that play trying to defend him and not Jourdan Lewis ; No#27 proved the previous week a running back going against him is a match up he'll win 9 out of 10 times...............................

I see Williams was at it again, allowing bull rushers to run right through.
I haven’t watched it yet but the film wonks on the Ticket were saying Williams filled in really well yesterday.

Sproles can make you look like you don't belong on the same field as him.....

Man— give the kid a break! He finished with a rating well over 100 and helped win us a game. Some of you guys expect perfection when reality is even HOF QBs throw picks and have bad games.

Is Brees a terrible QB bc he threw a pick last week to end the game? Hell no. But when it comes to Dak it has to be perfect...

Haters qualify anything positive the guy does as being the result of someone else’s success (it’s bc of Cooper or Zeke, or the D etc...) and thus diminish any contribution he makes— and then turn around and magnify any mistake he makes as if other QBs don’t make the same damn mistakes themselves!!!

Sorry for the rant— and I am talking to a much larger contingent than you my friend— just exhausted from the hypocrisy and short-sightedness and impatience displayed by our fan base from time to time lol...

Peace brother...

That was not directed at Dak - it was directed at the poster who wants to blame the int on bad playcalling on 1st and 2nd down. - thats just stupid!

Stupid? If you don’t see or understand how playcalling on 1st and 2nd down affect your chances of success and failure on third down— then you don’t know much about football son

It is stupid, a wide open WR with time in the pocket. It could have happened on 1st, 2nd or 3rd. It was a bad pass. and it was an easy pass as well - he had no Lb to throw over. If it was tight coverage or bad protection on third because of down and distance then you might have a point but that was not the case - you, as a QB could not ask for anything more than what he had.

The failure on 3rd was the pass and the pass alone!

Coaches #1 responsibility is to put their players in the best position to succeed. Throwing from the shotgun on 1st down in the 4th quarter of a game when you have the lead is dumb.

I’m not saying Dak didn’t throw a bad ball— all QBs do in fact. I am saying he should never had to be in a position to be in 3rd and long.

Run the ball or playaction there— Linehan missed it— and then Dak threw a bad ball. His chances of throwing a bad ball on 3rd and long are greater than his chances of doing so on 3rd and short when the defense has to still respect the run.

Dak needs to own the INT— no question— needs to make a better throw. Linehan needs to own putting his guy in that position by poor playcalling on 1st and 2nd down

For those rewatching, key in on Beasley. Dak checked down to Zeke on at least three occasions and missed Cole running wide open for huge plays. That seems to be happening a lot lately. They’ve got to figure out why he’s losing Beasley so much. Those throws are gimmes.
Mad at Beasley for, sort of, calling him out earlier in the year?
:muttley:
tin foil hat in place

I don't think he should be playing this year, unless their are injuries forcing him to play. Beyond that, there are no expectations.

do you even watch other games? NFL QBs generally have very little time to pass the ball. There are much worse offensive lines out there where the QB does his job of moving around in and out of the pocket to avoid the rush and read defenses quickly enough to get the ball out in time. Our QB is not good at that at the moment.

Oh I agree on the latter, I wasn’t making excuses for Dak but the OL hasn’t looked so good at pass blocking either. If you look at QBs who don’t get sacked all that much, and not ironically they often have long careers, Brady...Brees...the ball is usually out of their hands in about 3 seconds which makes it hard for a rush to get there. But that requires a mastery of reading a presnap defense and knowing where the ball is going before the snap. Not Daks strong suit.

They ran an illegal pick on Vander Esch on that play to Sproles in the right flat.
