Bengals released Rey Maualuga, 8 year vet at LB. Made plays for the Bengals.
Any interest?

We need young studs with upside, not used up has-beens. The Bengals would have kept him in tow if they felt he was valuable enough.

Probably not.

If he was cheap with little guarantees, he wouldn't be a bad insurance policy in case the Jaylon Smith experiment suffers a set back. I expect us to draft a guy as well but that guy might take a year to be ready for significant time.

I actually like our LB group as far as upside is concerned. They like Nzeocha, seems like they groomed him for this upcoming season. Anthony Hitchens is going into a contract year which should be a plus. I have very high expectations for Wilson as well.

With the move to a more open passing game the slow MLB are becoming dinosaur's.

Yes, I thought of this too. But had to ask to get opinions, it is the off season. And seems we need the obligatory thread about every player available......
Anyway, also could be for cap reasons as well. But I also think he was getting knicked up and having injury issues. nothing major, but in and out of games, missing plays.
I watched quite a few Bengals games, and always like his plays, but seems he and Burfict was in and out of games often.

I just think the Cowboys' defense needs those types that will be able to progress over time and improve themselves along with the team. It'll likely be tough, if not impossible, for Rey M. to fulfill that role at his advancing age, although it wouldn't make me mad if they welcomed someone like him on an affordably cheap deal for a year or two. I'm not at all too sure he would fulfill that requirement, though.

He's the type of FA LB that I can see waiting till an injury pops up somewhere and signs week 2 onwards.

Maualuga is too slow. This defense is being built to be a fast, swarming defense. I'd much rather Zach Brown.
