My article in this morning's newspaper is about how teammates view the BYU quarterback battle, specifically the two guys who were at last week's MWC football media days, defensive back Andrew Rich and offensive tackle Matt Reynolds.
Interestingly, Reynolds pointed out that if lefty Riley Nelson is the man, he will play right tackle to protect Nelson's blind side. If it is any of the others, all righties, Reynolds will play left tackle.
I also talked to Reynolds about his plans after this season. Several NFL draft experts have said he could be picked in the first round if he opts to forego his senior season and enter next April's NFL draft.
“My official statement on that is that I am taking it one game at a time. I have got to play a whole season, and that is what I am focused on. Really, that’s the only thing I am worried about, regardless of what I may or may not do at the end of the season," Reynolds said.
The Timpview High product said it is a decision that will have to be made when the season is over.
"We will gather all the information we can at that time and that’s really all anybody can do. You focus on what you can control right now, do what you can do right now, and you worry about everything else later.”
Reynolds went on a church mission straight out of high school, then redshirted his first year back. So he's on target to graduate next April.
As for the potential of being a high NFL draft pick, he said, "“All I can really say about that is it is someone’s guess. But it is always an honor to be recognized as a good player. It is gratifying to be recognized as a good player. But right now, it is anybody’s guess, where guys could be drafted.”
Reynolds' older brother, Dallas, is still on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad and is in camp trying to make the club.
