Rick Reilly was on Dan Patrick talking about Peyton Manning and how he prepared for the Superbowl.

He said he asked Manning how he was able to hold onto the ball from center when Grossman was having so much trouble.

Manning said:
"Once a month I take 10 balls and soak them in water for a while. Then I get my center and make him practice snapping the wet ball to me for half an hour. He always asked me "Why the hell do we do this?" I guess he knows now."

I heard that as well. Preparation is Manning's biggest strength.

I don't think it was the wet balls that hurt Grossmanthe most. I just think it was nerves. On his fumbled snaps, his hands were coming apart before the snap ever got close to his hands. That is not how a QB takes a snap. Quincy Carter had the same problem his rookie season. It is not that Quincy did not know how to take a snap then or Grossman does not currently know how to take a snap. They just can't deal with the pressure. They are so overwhelmed by the pressure that little things are lost to them. They lose their mechanics and things that should be second nature such as taking a snap. Not a quality that you want in your QB.

If it had been a dry day, then maybe Grossman may have been able to overcome his poor mechanics and nerves. A fumbled snap may have only been a bobbled snap if it had been dry. So, in that way the weather did play a part, but it was mostly on Grossman. The best QBs don't let the pressure get to them.

I'm sorry, but that is just awesome. My already high respect level for him just went up.
