Look, the Yankees played well. But isn't that what the Yankees are supposed to do? They paid their players almost twice as much as the Phillies team they beat -- $208M to $111M. Just the Yankees starting infield made more than 15 teams this year. Throw them a parade? I don't get it. So what? George Clooney got a girl, Paris Hilton slept in satin sheets last night and Bill Gates went to the bank. Call me when you've got some news. Hope your parade takes a wrong turn off a pier. " lol

I agree with this. I hope the NFL never looses the cap.

money well spent.

Clearly, the most intelligent comment that can be made in reference to this article.

Well done Jimmy.

I don't get why people hate on the Yankees? They obviously really want to win. At least they spend money unlike other owners.

I'm not even a Yankees fan. I just think it's ridiculous the criticism they take.

I don't hate the Yankees, in fact I was rooting for them this post season (although I would have loved to see a game 7 so I guess I was hoping Philly would win game 6).

I just think MLB's system is a joke and I thank the Good Lord the NFL is lightyears smarter than MLB.

The problem with Baseball is that owners, for years, have tanked seasons in exchange for proffits with no regard for fans. I agree that something should be done but it's hard when you have owners who are coasting and collecting money from teams who are making effort.

Whatever the reasons, the system is a joke. Half the league is eliminated by opening day. And that's why game 6 of the World Series got about half as many viewers of the NFL regular season game Minny at GB.

I enjoy watching baseball games, but I just can't get seriously into a league with such a stupid system. I hope the NFLPA and NFL owners pay close attention as they negotiate their new CBA.

I think it was because the California teams both got eliminated. Either way, I do understand your point. You gotta be a Baseball fan to hang in and watch the entire season.

I argue, however, that with the current system in the NFL, half the teams are eliminated the first game as well.

It's because nobody really gives a crap for games that don't involve their favorite team.

It's nowhere near that many in the NFL, and the only teams that are eliminated that early are because they are poorly run. You take intelligent management and good coaching, and any team can win the Super Bowl because it's a level playing field.. But all the genius in the world isn't going to help the Royals or the Pirates.

I don't disagree with this but a cap doesn't really fix that IMO. See Browns, St. Louis and Tampa. I mean, it is what it is.

The Browns, Rams and Buccaneers suck because they have morons running them. They don't suck because they are outspent by $150 million by the Steelers, Patriots and Saints.

BTW, I can't help but notice that 2 of the 3 teams you listed have won Super Bowls in the past 10 years. If you took good management and good coaching, any of those teams could compete within no time at all. The same cannot be said for MLB teams.

The point is that Baseball has shown that revenue sharing in MLB won't work. The owners in that sport will abuse it so MLB is left with an imperfect solution to the problem. The systems are different because Baseball does not work like football does.

I have no issue with your statement about management . I think I've made that abundently clear. However, the cap does not prevent poor ownership. The Browns are a very good example of this IMO. Because of poor decisions by the owner, that franchise has gone from great promise to disarray in 2 short years. The cap doesn't solve all problems.

A hard cap could help bring in the disparities a little bit in baseball. But it won't fix all the problems, unless that is, you have a minimum salary as well. Teams like PIT spend so little, that a cap isn't going to make them competitive for a title.

Agreed Pep. If the owners would just spend money on there teams, this would not be an issue. The problem is that bad teams stay bad but the bottom line of these teams stays healthy. Baseball will complain about small market franchises but they won't open their books to let people confirm. This is what killed the cap in MLB when it was proposed the last time. Attendance, profits, continue to grow.

It's hard to argue for a cap when everybody is making money and attendance continues to rise. The small market teams cry but not too loud. I don't know if they really want it to change.

World Series in Yankee stadium, even new Yankee Stadium is just cool. I just wish LA would have been there, would have been like I was a kid again.

Yeah Jimmy, I know what you mean. I remember the Yankees and the Dodgers as well. Maybe next year, that can happen.

Ownership may not want it to change, but the fans certainly do. So which would you say was more important?

I would say that you have to include the players as well. This is not just on the owners. The owners tried to make minimum expenditures a rule for all clubs the last two years and the Players blocked that move. Take a good look at the attendance chart I posted earlier. How bad do you want to change it?

Yes, the players blocked that move because they are afraid that by setting a salary floor, you lay the groundwork for a salary cap which, of course, they strongly oppose.

Personally, I don't really care if they change it or not. I am a casual baseball fan, and I enjoy watching the games every once in a while. I was happy to see the Yankees win since I like Jeter, Rivera and Posada. But if I was a hard core fan of the Royals or the Pirates, I would probably want the system to change very much.

You should be aware that attendance isn't everything. Ratings are also a pretty big deal too, and since baseball is now a sport with just local followings, TV ratings are going to be a product of whomever is playing. In other words, the Super Bowl is going to get colossal ratings no matter who plays. But the World Series will only be watched by people from the cities who are playing. This year's World Series ratings were up because you took away Tampa and replaced it with New York. But next year they will come back down unless the Yankees make it again.

I have found that the only people that defend MLB's system are the fans of big market teams. I am very thankful the NFL's system is what it is, where all teams compete on a level playing field.

It likely would. If the owners don't want it and the players don't want it and the networks don't want it, what does that say?

As I said earlier, I don't disagree but then there is the reality of the situation.

I am completely aware of this fact. However, Minnesota and Colorado are not going to improve that situation. What you are saying now actually works against the arguement of big market big money.

I like the Yankees in the American League but it might surprise you to know that I am actually a Reds fan. I grew up on Bench, Perez, Morgan, Conception, Rose, Griffy Geronimo and Foster. I'm the poster child for what it is you are against. I also know that there is reality.
