He's looked impressive in preseason and is the #2 RB on the depth chart.

Was he on IR last year? I don't remember him ever playing and Malik Davis was the #3 back.

Is he going to be the back up behind Pollard?

I mean Deuce is probably right behind Dowdle.

What are you projecting for Dowdle this season?
I will first of all admit that I was wrong about Dowdle. I didn’t give him much of a chance to factor in.

Given his injury history and contract status, I expected the team to move on.

But he’s been impressive in the preseason and has likely edged Davis out.

I was wrong 2. That said, can he stay healthy? What happens when he gets hurt? Factor in that 20 might not be 100% either. I can see us signing a vet again at rb. We need depth . It might make sense for us 2 trade for Taylor if we can get him for a 3rd. otherwise, we might keep Luepke.

Dowdle is the second best running back on the team and it’s not close (sorry Deuce fans). The problem is he has not stayed healthy the last two seasons.

I do have the feeling that Pollard is going to get injured at some point. He might not be the ‘main back’ that this team is planning for.

There isn’t a logical way to keep Jones if Dowdle is your 2.

Dowdle, Vaughn and Davis play special teams.

Jones does not. I can’t justify keeping a 3rd or 4th back for little carries, no special team value and stinks pass blocking.

Exactly

I agree. I see a scenario where Deuce gets a start.

Dowdle looks good. The way he's running reminds me a little of Beast Mode. Just when the officials are about to blow the dead ball whistle, he gains another two yards, dragging 2-3 defenders with him. Also looks comfortable catching the ball. He might burn out quick with his running style but imo he is the 2nd RB, hands down. I can see Deuce removing him eventually but for now, Rico is the guy.
He definitely looks better than the horrid zeke. But hes been an injury train wreck. So i doubt he can handle 200 carries.

Its a big gamble with him and pollard as your 1 and 2. If they are smart this will be a 3 rb rotation with deuce.

Dowdle wasn’t that impressive in the first preseason game. He didn’t run the ball particularly well and had a fumble that cost us points. He looked much better last week. Far from sold on him but we’ll see how it goes during the regular season.

To be fair, he is likely a PS player. Maybe RB3 or RB4.

RJones is returning to practice.

Pollard and RJones are our only vet RBs.

We need all they help we can get.

RB1 Pollard
RB2 RJones
RB3 RD
RB4/PS DV
Practice squad deuce Vaughn? Lol

Dowdle only played 2 preseason games last year & got hurt. I believe he was healthy again at some point and could have come back, but Davis had a better preseason and was doing fine as the 3rd team guy, and Dowdle's IR designation wasn't taking a roster spot, so they left it alone.

He didn't look impressive to me. He had that bad fumble, and has looked decent at best other than that. Nothing that blows you away or makes you think the guy is a threat to score on any given play.

Problem was never Rico's ability but more so his durability.
He has run instincts, a burst and receiving skills, and reportedly they like his blitz blocking ability - which all combined
is why I think Rico will seize the RB2 spot behind Pollard instead of Deuce.

but flat simple, can Rico dare stay healthy ?
Is it only a matter of time before " Uh oh, here it comes again ? "
Availability is ability.
